When you're dealing with normal customers especially repeat customers, this may not be difficult, but how do you deal with having to use new customer's restroom, especially the ones look at you with the "you're not the same class as I" look or the clean freak ones ?

When ya got to go ya got to go. Just be sure and ask, if they say no, hold it.

Luckily for me number two is like clock work in the morning after my coffee so no problem there. Number 1 I go before I leave in the morning and usually sweating do much on the first job that I don't need to go. But if you gotta go you gotta go better than laying one down on the carpet.

I recall a fellow carpet cleaner said would fart in his hose so he wouldn't smell up the house when he had gas. On one occasion he was putting that hose near his butt and farting when the customer walks in and caught him the act laughing

After my "gut re-arranging" surgery, it wasn't an option for me. If I had to go, it was going to happen, they only had the option of me using their bathroom or their floor. Embarassed

After a few years of recovery, things are more normal and I would definitely try and avoid using their bathroom. At least find the basement bathroom or something if the situation demands it.

If someone feels that offended to allow you to use their bathroom, then they probably don't like you in their space at all. Not my kind of customers.

I will only ask if my stomache starts rumbling because I know the inevitable is going to happen.

This is where the apartment guys have the upper hand.  Although its still awkward when you're power squatting and they come looking for you or come by to show the apartment.  We don't allow anyone in the units when we are cleaning for liability reasons but it doesn't stop them from trying.

Maybe joe send us those funnels for the cfm meter. Then we could do number 2 as well. reading

On second thought that could go terribly wrong...

It is a real problem around here during the winter when the plumbing has been winterized on the unit you are cleaning.

Options are very limited at that point.

LOL, didn't expect this many replies, seems simple, just ask the customer, well for me, not really, I'm not talking about number 2 here, just number 1, I can't believe how many gave me weird look when I asked, not as bad in the last few years since there were more repeat clientelle.
The reason for this thread is, I used to hold it a lot of times, but when you're in your 20's, no big deal, once you hit 30's and older, all kinds of problems start to occur and many don't realize it, I'm going to inform y'all that if you think your back pain is from cleaning carpets and upholsteries only, you're wrong ! For a few years that's what I thought, only in the past year I found out when I pee when I have to go, I don't have back pain the next day, so the weird looks you may be getting from your customers is a small price to pay for a pain free and healthier you.
And box truck idea is not a bad idea, heck why not build a toilet too in there ? I'm sure there's enough space right ? : P
