LOL, I wonder if 50 years from now there's a video on how to clean your carpets the proper way and people will think it's a joke

That's nothing, let me tell you what corporate america does.
We had a couple of employees slip and fall on the ice a couple of years ago creating an OSHA reportable injury. In an attempt to eliminate this problem, they hired a judo expert in Hawaii to fly to Nebraska and teach a bunch of idiots how to fall on the ice without getting hurt.
Let me highlight this again. They hired a Judo master in Hawaii (never seen winter in his life), flew him to Nebraska, set him up with a hotel, and paid him thousands to teach people how to walk on icy sidewalks and to fall without getting hurt.
Re: I may have seen it all now
I'm sure it was cheaper than the fine OSHA would have imposed.
OSHA may have done much to keep the worker safe, but like any other government program, it gets full out stupid sometimes.

Re: I may have seen it all now
Thats crazy.
I should go to Hawaii and to teach people how to fall correctly on the beach.

Re: I may have seen it all now
The other day, a cleaner that has been cleaning for some time, came across a client that had a Sisal rug. Dog peed on it, and the client said it left a stain on it.
He offered to clean it for her and she didn't think she wanted to do that, so the cleaner suggested she use vinegar and water(in a spray bottle) to remove the stain.
I have never came across Sisal yet, but I know enough that it can't be wet cleaned. I kinda had a good belly laugh over that one, because he looked like a fool, even though he thinks he is such a smart fella. I wonder what her rug looks like now, after she sprayed water and vinegar all over it?

I have turned down cleaning Sisal twice just cause of what Ive read on the forums. Can you clean it? New topic?

Solvent clean only. So then there exists the danger if you use vac on it after using dry solvents, that you have explodable fumes in whatever you are using to vac with.
I'd pass too on any Sisal I ever come across. Too much hassles. And I doubt in most cases we could offer results that are half reasonable.

Re: I may have seen it all now
Ok that was it thanks for the reminder Freemind. I don't do any solvent cleaning.
Re: I may have seen it all now
I've steam clean sisal before a few times actually, didn't charge that much for them due to the result which is not much improvement, told them to not expect much from cleaning.

I have always passed on Sisal....always told them to have Stanley Steamer come out and flush it really good.

Re: I may have seen it all now
I normally come across them in accent rugs and stair runners. I haven't seen a full room with it in this area....well, not a natural sisal anyway. I have seen some synthetic sisal carpets which aren't so bad to clean.
Re: I may have seen it all now
I should add that Sisal is another natural fiber (cactus I think) that gets used in the same places that wool gets used as they share some of the same qualities. A pretty scratchy and rough fiber from what I have experienced...I wouldn't want it on the floor.
Re: I may have seen it all now
How do you identify it?...is there certain things that make it obvious?

Re: I may have seen it all now
The ones that I saw looked like wool, just with more texture. I wouldn't have known any different except the owner told me about she just loved the sisal stair runners. I had to run back to the van and google it...I never saw it before that.
Re: I may have seen it all now
Maybe it's time this Sisal talk is broken off in to it's own thread?,..... just in case I'm not the only dummy to just now hear about it.

Re: I may have seen it all now
Sisal comes from the Agave plant. Same place Tequila comes from. It can be cleaned with a neutral shampoo and an acid rinse wetting the entire rug or carpet, but shrinkage is a problem. Low moisture cleaning is recommended to prevent shrinkage and browning. Liquid spills on sisal can be permanent and bleach will turn it white with little effect on the fiber and it will age back to its original color over time. Sisal can even be dyed, but will eventually return to its original color.
Just a little info for ya.
