Magic Wands Universal HX
Anybody know anything about these things. How much heat do you think I can get with this blower exhaust heater. I have a roots 45. Little giant is getting on my nerves.

That would play a big role with my purchasing it or not. Finding out where it was made would tell everything as far as quality goes.

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
I wonder if Johns Heat Exchanger or Blue Baron makes them. The price is on the low side. Probably wont get more that 180 ATM.
Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
Figure the blower might get you 250 degree exhaust...you could probably expect to see about 180 - 190 degrees at best.
My concern would be the pressure rating of the heat exchanger. How thick is the copper?
Could just buy a Northstar Heater and cook it off at 250 degrees at max pressure.

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
Keep the questions coming. If it can handle 600 PSI I am good with that.
No way I have space for a Nortstar beast

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
Copper cost money....at that price I suspect thin copper walls, that's all.
I like the sound of those heaters by John, but I still have doubts with an exhaust-only heating method.

No need, waste of time and money, if you'd just replace the G'DAM bad QD you wouldn't have a prob with the LG. You're starting to piss me off now, Mo!!

Mo, Call Kacy at relia built, I think he can hook you up with a heat exchanger that will in stall very easy for you. I think you will also be pleased with his pricing.

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
I called Magic Wand the heat exchanger is rate at 1000 PSI and it will range in the 160-180 temp range. I asked the coils was the same gauge as the little giant. He said it had a 1/2 coil?
The 3 low pressure lg $1390.00
The 3HP $1570.00

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
160-180 will not make you happy. That would be about 130 - 150 atw on a cool night.
Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
Yea for sure, 160 at the machine isn't good! That's what I was getting before I finally got my LG fixed. And it's sooo much better now at 220-240.
What do they charge for that HX?

No but its been silver soldered twice and Im just waiting to dime to drop
Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
Mo,
This Hx is more like a preheater, I do not think it was intended to run motor exhaust through it, and you shouldn't attempt to run engine ex through it.
It would raise the internal pressure to much and blow it apart if you were to try.
Looks to be a great heater for a butler or PTO unit where only engine coolant, and blower heat is available.

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
Mo,
I am sorry to say this but you really need to stick with a LPg heater, there is no way you are going to get any real heat out of what you have.
The Judson is awesome but it was never designed with HX in mind.
A Hx system works in LEVELS each level of heat raises the temp x amount and then sends it to the final engine HX to give it that final boost.
You will waste your money 600-900 on a HX system hoping that the 16 or 19 hp you have is going to raise water to 200* with one pass.
You can't beat the heat you get with the LPg heater, you can take a portable and fuel heat and be hotter than 75% of HX TM out here.
Mo, please just save your moolah and get your LPg heater fixed buddy, it WILL BE THE CHEAPER route in the long run guaranteed.

Re: Magic Wands Universal HX
I would like to say one more thing, Guys that live in a colder climate like Mo need to put a nice " T " Brass or SS one on the incoming water, and one on the out going water, This way at the end of the day you can crack the plug in the top "T" and open the bottom "T" and let it drain in just a few seconds.....no more frozen coils.
