Van lettering?

Post by Devon07 on Mon Apr 27, 2015 6:57 pm

What should be on the van....what is NOT enough and what is TOO much?

Im obviously going to put my name (logo) and ph number, what services we do, but some wraps are too much for me....some dont say enough.....tell me your story!

This is what should not be on your van..........

I never had much luck with my name on the van, as far as it getting jobs, so I gave up on it and now just drive an un-lettered van.  But I know it would present a better image when pulling up to a customers house.

I look at it like risk vs. reward, and with all the thieves and sue happy people here in CA, I just don't see the little reward being worth the risk.

So I'm really of no help, as usual. LOL

Probably more of an impact in a small town. I remember meeting the husband of my wife's co worker. He asked what I did for a living after I told him he said, " You're the green guy, I see your van everywhere".

I have never been a big fan of those loud fancy wraps, half the time you don't even know what they do.

Mixed views myself.

Lettered vans are more professional and gets you greater exposure. The problem is, it also gets you greater exposure for bad things like thieves or when you break down in traffic.

If you want attention, put a person on that van. I get drawn to every van that has a person on the side or even back doors. Even when I know who it is, I still can't help but look at it in traffic.

Outside of that, keep it simple. I hate those vans that look more like the Carpet Cleaner's Nascar entry rather than a work van. You all know guys like that....don't be one.

lots of van wraps are done by sign shops... sign shops are good at making signs but not so much vehicle wraps sometimes.

signs are stationary and people have time to read them, vehicle wraps do matter but they have to be able to get the info in less than 1 second.

Its not as much a direct advertising although it can be, but more brand recognition. Its kind of a waste to not have one, the exposure you get just driving around from job to job here is like 40,000-50,000 cars/people per day.

just make sure you get it done by someone that understands small writing doesnt work, that was a mistake we made with our express... it has way too much small print that nobody will ever really read.

Although its not the best wrap and it is only one van, I have heard more than a few times "oh I see your vans everywhere" these people all thought we had like 10 vans driving all over daily lol

thats some good exposure

I agree AC...this is the same thing we experienced. We only had three vans and a trailer but they thought we were a huge company with many vans.

I dont see what you guys mean in the earlier posts about Sue happy people?

what does that have to do with van decals? why would someone sue you because your van is marked or unmarked?

There are pirates in some parts of the country that target a business vehicle and create a crash just to sue. My Brother had that happen in Missouri a few years ago towing a 42 foot boat. The guy was in a ford Focus and pulled into his lane and hit the brakes on the interstate. His car was packed with bed mattresses and pillows....it was the 7th "accident" in a 2 year period for this guy. In each case, the insurance company paid the guy off rather than go to court.

Yep, that's what they do, and there's illegals that make a living out of it.

Not to mention having your truck lettered around here is also a big sign to the thieves, "Hey look I have 50k in equipment in this van".

I see,

yes I know that its a problem in so cal with the hispanic gangs or used to be.

my uncle lives in West Covina and owns Golden Bear Oil

they had problems about 20 years ago with hispanic gangs surrounding the oil trucks on all sides and forcing a crash into a nice mercedes that was in the front of the truck.

Basically the mercedes slows until the truck is close then cars block driver on both sides,    then mercedes hits the brakes hard and they try and sue

This was a long time ago though.

If I lived in South parts of Seattle or Lakewood I wouldnt probably even be able to have a work vehicle or do jobs without getting the vehicle stolen lol

Is this a wrap or just lettering or combo of both?

If lettering, add some pin striping. No seriously, it really does make you stand out and is relatively cheap. As a cleaner, you want to be seen as an approachable guy instead of a sterile company.

Nobody wants a robot to come clean their house and having a little personality in your lettering can make a big difference.
