1st time tile & grout
Well got my 1st tile & grout job in the books. Only did it cause it was a repeat customer for cleaning his carpets and he really wanted it done. Don't have a spinner tool or high psi portable only have a Mytee M5 with 500psi. Sprayed cleaner down with pump up sprayer, let dwell, used grout brush on a stick to scrub grout. Put the stiff bristle brushes on my CRB and went to town, then used a hard surface wand connected to my portable. had to only run one vac motor, using both was two much suction, hard surface wand sucked and get stuck to floor could not move it. put hot tap water in solution tank hooked my mytee hot turbo heater then just rinsed and sucked it all up, came out great customer loved it and payed me $20 extra and it was fairly easy to do. Think I just might have to do this more often but will be a little selective of the jobs i take. Love my CRB on carpets and now on floors too. However would not be good in tight space's, no way your fitting a CRB in a bathroom and getting around the toilet. So i'll just stick to big open area's for now

Re: 1st time tile & grout
Congrats Kevin!
I have the new spinner and did my own t/g and my moms t/g to get familiar with it.....it did really good but would like to know what everyone is spraying down prior to the scub down.

Re: 1st time tile & grout
I've been using Pro's Choice Tile cleaner as it is available local. In all honesty, I don't think I have ever found a bad tile cleaner...they all work.
Unless you are going after the really bad tile (think gas station bathrooms) I don't think you need to worry much about your brand of selection.

Re: 1st time tile & grout
Good job Kevin It's always nice when your first paying job comes out great.
Good job with the pre scrub. I would imagine the long brushes of the CRB really dig in to the grout. Next time just use high PSI after dwell and see how it might clean up without the re scrub.
Devon if Im cleaning carpet Ill use my carpet cleaning solution if it does the job. If not I have Oxiblaster and an old gallon of Shorebest 2790 in the van

Re: 1st time tile & grout
I now normally use 2790, because it out performs all the others I've tried, and usually doesn't require any agitation for better results than the others.
Before that I was using Pro's Choice HD Pro Clean, which does work well, and is very economical at just 1-2oz per mixed gal.

Re: 1st time tile & grout
The problem with the 2790 is it ends up costing more because it's not as concentrated as the HD Pro Clean. But since I don't really use it daily, it's worth it to me, for the better performance.

Yes those long brushes on the CRB fit right into the grout and do a great job, I use the CRB for agitation due to the fact I don't have high psi, only 500 on my machine, so for now, till i get higher psi i have to rely on the agitation. But in all honesty, one could do tile and grout with a scrub brush with a mop and bucket. Gonna work your butt off and it will take a long time but can be done, won't ever catch me doing it that way though, lol

Re: 1st time tile & grout
Kevin, I, just like Milspec don't believe you need really high pressure to clean T&G...........I also don't use anymore than 600 psi, and bet I wouldn't even notice a difference if it was at 500............so I wouldn't loose any sleep over cleaning it at 500 psi, although agitation never hurts, so you may as well do it for the best results possible.

Re: 1st time tile & grout
high psi can be a bigger risk too, spinners can leave rings in softer stone
I also prefer to just scrub well

Re: 1st time tile & grout
That is why guys should get properly trained, so they know what not to do so they don't "leave rings in softer stone".
And know how to test, identity and clean different types of hard surfaces..

Re: 1st time tile & grout
Training is important with stone surfaces, it can be real surprising what you discover. Like adding creme of tarter to sandstone grout for example, find a good class before tackling stone...it can be damaged quite easily.
Re: 1st time tile & grout
It's also very important for Tile & Grout apparently too. As there are many thing to test for and know to deal with common situations we come across.........I know this because I'm asked these questions, by those who haven't done the proper training.
