Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
Yup, that sounds like Nebraska.
I'll add a story.
I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and ended up going to a bar called the "Boars Head" with a buddy of mine. It was pretty much a bar frequented by military pilots from what I could see.
Anyway, at one point my buddy goes to the bar and these 2 women came over and sat down at my table. We started talking and the flirting began, then they suggested that we all go back to their place on the beach.
I was giving the signal to my buddy when they asked if we were originally from the area. I told them that we were both from Nebraska. It looked like one of them just ate an onion dipped in garlic.
The sour face turned to her friend and asked her "Remember that time we had to drive to Chicago and passed through the miserable state with all the bugs and the never-ending cornfields? These guys are from there."
Her friend instantly became disgusted and they both left as my buddy returned to the table with a puzzled look on his face.
I always claimed to be from Florida after that night.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
Lol, wow what a story, RR we will go to Oahu again around March 2016 with the whole family, if you have time for a cup of coffee we can hang out for a little bit, the plan is to stay at Marriott resort ( next to Aulani ) for about 3 days and then stay at downtown ( beach front ) another 3 days or so.
If your PM connected to your email, I'll pm you my cell when I have a tentative dates or you can PM me your cell as well if you'd like.
Rob, you should change the dates to March and we can all hang out together, have a couple of drinks at downtown bar at sunset or something

I wish I could Dp....then again, I could change my return flight and just for awhile longer.
I'm heading down the 2nd week in Feb., what part of March are you planning?

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
I think it's closer to the end of March, the 26th I think ? And we'll be there for about 6 days, I understand if you can't, to stay there for a whole month is going to cost an arm and a leg, lol.
We were planning to stay in Aulani until we see the rate ( $ 1400+ / night for a 1 bedroom suite ) and $ 800+ for a regular hotel room which won't fit all 5 of us.
Earlier this year 2 bedroom suite in 4 star resort in downtown ( beach is across the street from it ) is about $ 1400 for 5 days 4 nights. Next year that same property is charging $ 3000+ for 5 days 4 nights. Makes me think if the dates are still considered high season ? And also makes me think if Hotels are charging an arm and a leg for high season, why we carpet cleaners are giving discounts during peak season ? I sure don't but there are plenty of them out there offering ridiculous deals around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
Have you looked into house rentals?
I was able to rent a furnished house just off the beach in Kaui for a great price. Even includes bicycles and wave boards.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
No, not yet, we looked at some 1 BR condo rental which is not too bad, $ 1200 / week a block away from the beach downtown, Kauai is cheaper than Oahu though right ? But the flight is a lot more expensive than flights to Oahu I think.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
It is a cheaper island to stay on, but the airfare didn't seem much different. I'm flying from Omaha direct to Kauai with only a short stop in Phoenix for $900 round trip.
Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
And how much is the home rental per week ? How many bedrooms ?
That's a pretty good price for the flight, it's about $ 700+ round trip from LA to Honolulu.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
I ended up spending $3,000 for the week. It sleeps 12, 5 bedrooms, 2-story with observation deck, and 3 baths.
I am just not a fan of hotels any more and resort ones even less. Most have paper thin walls and I end up with the fight club couple next door. A house with a short walking path to a beach sounded pretty good to me.
As long as my brothers show up and pay their share....it should turn out to be a pretty cheap stay. Expect to be around $600 for my share.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
DP is a member here. He was trying to look you up when he was in Oahu with the family earlier this year.
Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
Now it's gotten beyond hot here (and it's prob 10+ deg. hotter inland where DP is), I really don't know how you guys in the really hot areas with high humidity do it!?!
It's a 100 here now and still climbing, only a couple miles from the ocean, where we don't normally get this kind of heat, but at least the humidity is only 40% today.......it's the lack of a breeze that's killer. One of the problems here too is a lot of houses don't have A/C because we don't see this type of heat very often.
I know call me a wuss, because I know some of you have it much worse, I feel sorry for you guys, really. I don't know how you even work in it, sweat dripping in your eye's, shirt soaked, all that wonderful stuff. lol
What are your tricks for surviving working in it?

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
Extra shirts are a must. I often run a cord across the van between the seats to hang the shirts on to help dry as I drive.
It might sound funny, but my old butler van does not have a/c and we spend a good part of the summer with heat indexes around 100 degrees. Having a dry shirt is well worth it.

Re: Wheeeeew it's Hot.
Nothen funny about no A/C, I don't think.
I don't have A/C in my house, and it's 94 in here right now. Earlier it was so hot, above 95, I guess for the thermostat to even read. DP told me the "OL" it was reading was just missing the other L, for LOL you HOT sucker!!
To make it worse, it poured here a couple hours ago, and so the humidity is threw the roof high.
Whine, whine, whine.
