Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

Post by milspec6 on Wed Jul 29, 2015 8:03 am

So, I am in the middle of a 6 out of 7 day workweek at the plant.  That is a 75 hour week, plus I just finished a 7 hour commercial clean right after shift....got home, took exactly a 1 hour nap, and now back at the plant for another 12.5 hours.  I still have another 6 hour commercial tonight after shift and then the final day shift at the plant tomorrow. Shocked

This would be called "doing it wrong".

My accountant keeps telling me that if I go full-time as a cleaner again, that I would have to endure working long hours.  Really, long hours?  Can't see how it could be made any longer than it has been for the last 10 years where I averaged 55 hours at plant, and 15 hours cleaning......and those are averages?

How many hours do you average each day cleaning?  I'm starting to think that cleaning full-time will feel like a vacation at this point.

I like doing 2-3 jobs per day, which means leaving the house around 830/9 and getting home by 3 or so.

Traffic is really really horrible here so you have to adapt, if you try and leave earlier youll sit for an hr to 1.5 on the way to your first job...

if u ever ponder the idea of possibly starting a job at 3 on the eastside, youll pay for it big time and wont get home until 730 maybe 8.

This is the main reason why we took a 1 truck 2 man operation and split into 2 trucks with 1 man on each, we cover more ground this way.

So a typical day, I will go out and do a 930 arrival for a job in the 250-375 range, then another 250 or so and head home.. or maybe a 250, 150, and a minimum charge 125..

then express van will do the same and were both done and home by 3 most every day without any traffic headaches

I know we could push really hard and hit higher numbers per day, but the reason I am in business for myself is to have freedom and a laid back work life

^ Behind the curtain?? Traffic...Have you ever driven on the LA areas FrWys ANYTime of the day, night or Wk Ends?.....Avoidable NO, there's no rush hour here, it's pretty much 24 hr a day nightmare.

Wow, Rob that is a lot of hours!.......I don't know how you do, especially with so little sleep! Makes me tired just reading about it. Suspect

ya theres always some traffic here,     but morning rush hour and evening rush hour is like a dead stop..   not even worth driving in

theres still some traffic around 2-3pm but at least it moves...    6pm on 405 its like 30minutes per mile almost

technically speaking, based on statistics LA traffic is rated worse then ours.. because of them factoring surrounding populations..

but our road system is like 100x worse than yours. we have only 2 north south interstates, and 2 hwys east west which one is only 3 lanes.

if you look at a map of seattle the entire infrastructure is shaped like an hour glass with a huge bottle neck in the middle

ACpower1,

Your day is a near mirror image of mine and for the same reason's Traffic. Instead of having two day trucks, I have one dedicated to night jobs. Restaurants mostly. My grandson is working his way through college with it. It's a win win situation. He's been working with me since he was twelve.

That is where I want to end up....having a business that allows me some freedom and time to enjoy life a little.

Right now, I am a long ways away from that reality.

Pain I feel, but the fatigue is odd as I really don't burn out.

Ever since my insides went crazy, I never seem to need any sleep. I don't use any caffeine either in any form, yet I can function all day on as little as 1 hour of sleep.

Must be some crazy adrenaline level or something.
