Phone + Tablet
I really like this idea, combining the phone with a tablet. I need to replace my phone anyway and was thinking about a tablet for field work like AC is doing. Why not combine the two?

Re: Phone + Tablet
The main reason I hate phablet is if I'm trying to schedule an appointment for my customer and I have incoming phone call, I can't ignore the incoming call, I have to either put the first call on hold and answer the incoming call or reject the incoming call, if I schedule the customer on my ipad, I can easily ignore the call and continue to schedule the job because it's on separate device and separate screen.
Another thing I don't like about that asus you put up there is it's too thick, if you're like me and have to schedule someone while driving, the thickness of the device makes a big difference in ease of handling.

I was just thinking the same thing
Luckily, I don't have to spend that much time on the road as you big city guys. A 20 minute drive for me actually covers 20 miles of open road where it might cover 2 miles in the city.
Sounds like a good job for the helper riding shotgun....handle the calls.
Re: Phone + Tablet
we switched to just bigger phones.
The new galaxys are amazing, the S voice is really cool. If you use google calendar you can schedule an appt without touching your phone.
you can also place reminders hands free and it is able to have multiple apps open on split screen.
any of you guys try house call pro yet? its now free for owner operators. I dont get anything by saying this but this app will change your business and your daily life.

Re: Phone + Tablet
I will be looking to upgrade my phone next week actually, that Galaxy is the main thing I want to check out.
I haven't tried HCP yet, but it is also on my list of things to look into. Both are great advice and part of my "caveman upgrade" prior to Spring.

Re: Phone + Tablet
AC, are you talking about the note 5 ?
Yeah I'm a bad boy, I probably violated a few laws there, hands free law and distracted driving, lol, well in my defense, hands free law is valid for cellular device only right ? I'm scheduling on my ipad, I might be off the hook there ? It's crazy though how easy to drive, talk on the phone and scheduling when I was younger, like 5 - 8 years ago, it is getting a little more difficult now, or may be I'm just more careful now, lol.
Oh yeah, sometimes I also sip my coffee when I was doing all of the above

It is only a problem when you are also eating lunch while steering with your knee.
Re: Phone + Tablet
ya Note 5 Dp, with service monster you really need a tablet but with HCP you dont... the data entry is as clean and easy as it could get.
once you try hcp and get some customer data built up in there your going to say.. wtf was I even doing before lol
every customer we service we are effectively taking them off of the market. Doing the absolute best cleaning for them believe it or not, is not enough.. you need to stay in contact with them.
especially if you use any online marketing like yelp, AL, etc your killing yourself not using a good crm software

Re: Phone + Tablet
Thats very true AC....in today's busy schedule they need to be reminded who they used before. I recently got paid from a job I WAS STILL AT and she put my competitors name on the check....I said, ummmm we need to change this! she then paid with a credit card.

Re: Phone + Tablet
I have to upgrade on Friday AC, so a couple of questions for you.
On that Note 5 that you are suggesting, what do you like about it that was missing in the Note 3 and 4? You said once that you didn't like the earlier versions...what changed?
How is the camera quality? I am torn between the Note 5 and an iPhone, with the iPhone getting strong support over their camera quality. I like to take pictures of the job in case it becomes necessary after it ends and my old Droid 4 has one of the worst cameras I have ever used.
They seem very similar to each other, so it might come down to a coin flip. The only thing that I don't like is the cloud storage instead of a removable memory card. It might be the future, but it is too far in the future for me to like right now.

Re: Phone + Tablet
This is not an equal comparison but comparing my ipad mini and note 3, I still prefer my Samsung note, it's easier to input scheduling if you use Google calendar, it "remembers" customers info a lot more than my ipad, may be it got something to do with the cloud vs memory card, the old customers ( a few years old ) seems to not popped up on my ipad and it did on my note, so if your main goal is for smooth scheduling, I would recommend note 5.

Re: Phone + Tablet
The Note 5 looks to be the winner. I liked that Asus phone / tablet thing until I read several reviews about the phone having reliability issues.
Re: Phone + Tablet
youll love the note 5, once you get used to it and learn all the short cuts it has built in.
I use the pen all the time for measurements, grocery lists, etc works from the locked screen, just pop the pen out and start writing on your digital note pad
The camera is really sharp, takes amazing photos and hd videos. Also you can just double tap the home button to shortcut opening the camera... probably the best feature Ive had on a phone. It works even from the locked screen so if you see something you need to take a pic of, you can whip it out and be taking a pic within 1 second

Re: Phone + Tablet
That was what I needed to hear, will be upgrading tomorrow.
Who knows, after that I might start eating with a fork and wearing clothes. What will the others in my cave clan think?
