Re: anyone still using google ad words?
AC, I stopped adwords a few years ago due to Yelp gave me a much better ROI, I used them again last year for a little bit by using some keywords that dispelled cheap customers, but barely got any clicks and Google automatically deactivated the ads. The average click price last year for my areas was around $ 12 / click, I think that's too much considering there are way too many price shoppers.
Peter, where are you at ? $ 150 seems really cheap, I wonder how many clicks / customers you got just from that ? Have you ever count ?

Re: anyone still using google ad words?
dp1 i have never looked into the volume of jobs coming from ad-words but has been my only advertizing and average for new clients contacting me is around 3 to 4 either booking or an estimate. i will look into the cost of clicks but is no way $12.00 i am thinking a couple of dollars.

Oh, you're in Bernie Sanders state, cool !! I've gone as gas as NY, but need to go further next time I'm in east coast.
I wonder how many carpet cleaner in your city ? Down here in Pasadena, there are 10 pages in Google if you search "carpet cleaner" with 10 companies per page
That's why it's around $ 12 / click.
I don't mind paying that if I get at least 50% ROI, $ 24 / new customer, cause my average is a little over $ 150 / job when you average in a year.

That's for sure!!
And that can be an issue around here, people just looking for the lowest price, and paying $12 per click, to just waste time on the phone with them and not getting any return on it. At least with Yelp it's not costing anything (really), but just wasted time.

plus a competitor has several ways of raping you with false clicks, there is even software that will do it for them.
ever get a call thats a local number looks legit but when you answer it says "please enter the conference number" or you call back and it has the same message?
thats a program for spamming pay per click
