time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
Hey everybody! I've been drawing a blank on coming up with a company name. I am offering several services so mikes carpet cleaning is out of the question . lol.... I plan on offering caret,t&g,vct, cleaning . Also thinking about throwing in pressure washing as I have a pressure washing trailer setup with steam genie. I actually pressure washed a krystals last week and the owner was beyond happy with the results. He said the building is the best it has looked since it was new. I actually used a xjet and soft wash solution with my washer with no high pressure on the building. Does anybody have any suggestions.

Re: time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
we went from "_____ carpet and upholstery cleaning" to "specialty cleaning and restoration"
opens up the door for a lot of services without them thinking your a carpet cleaner thats going to clean their expensive stone and seal it.
also helps them understand your not in the business of general cleaning, like maid service but instead specializing in operating high power equipment to do selective services.

Pick something that is easy to advertise and can be general enough to allow for changes in the services being offered over time.
It took me 42 tries to just find one that wasn't already being used by another LLC. In the end,
I gave up and just picked one that I could easily create a logo for.
I was always a little disappointed by the name, but my logo design was pretty cool at least.

I have heard different opinions on putting your name on the business. Some think it adds to business/customer relationship. And some think it puts you across as small time fly by night and possibly not professional. Idk

If your county has a website that listed all of the companies name, look there, just Google "fictitious business name *your county*"

How about national companies like stanleysteamer. Of course I know I cant use that but how many more are out there that I don't know about. How do I know the name I pick is free to use without infringements.

How about putting your city name to it? Gives it local home town feel and good for SEO
Re: time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
What little business classes that I have taken, the professors all advised that the best name is not a name at all. According to them, you best approach are initials....NBC, NFL, MLB, UPS,......see a trend here?
They told us that research bore out that initials were easy to remember and brand while still being valuable if the company was sold and the original owner no longer involved.

Use the first letters of your first and last name, followed by services.
(E.G.) M.S. Services.
(E.G.) M.S. Services.

Isn't that the old porn star naming method? Actually, I rather like that name....maybe stylize it to M/S Services?

I agree, I've never been a fan of business named after the owners name...........although, I do think using a last name is better than first name.
As already said, something easy to remember like UPS I think is a good idea.

That sounds pretty good to me. Easy to remember, identifies what you do, and easy to create a logo and ads.
You could even shorten it to PCS and then spell it out in the ads what it stands for. Yup, I like it!
My first company involvement was "B.E.S.T" which stood for "Bio-Environmental Services and Technologies" back in the Meth lab abatement days.
Needless to say, the abbreviation was much easier to fit on a shirt.

I bet those meth labs were some nasty jobs. Do you get any jobs after an extreme pest extermination. that would be rough too. I delivered furniture years ago . There were some houses I didnt want to step foot in but did what I had to do.

Re: time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
Meth labs will surprise you. Many times they are located in the basement of very affluent homes where it is kept in the kid's old bedroom once they leave the nest.
I didn't do any of the trailer house labs since the banks didn't have enough money invested in them to warrant cleaning.
As for extreme exterminations....yes, did many of those too as well as some pretty gruesome crime / death scenes where you had to chisel the brains off your tools when you were done.
It sure makes a trashed carpet seem much nicer.

Re: time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
I would focus more on a domain than a name.... Names are easy ...they should be fairly easy to remember and be unique if possible. Ive said this before.,...I dont really like the name BUT its a big bold move they wont forget....Name your company something like RED DOT carpet cleaning and make the dot blue. they will never have trouble recalling your name.
I like the name CASH carpet cleaning....they will make checks out to CASH...

Re: time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
"Cash" would be a lot of fun in a name....or how about "Sexy". That would make for some interesting conversations over the phone.
The domain probably is a higher priority. For me, I didn't like my name but did like the logo and slogans that derived from it, so I went with it.
I still like that "PCS" for a name though...I think it can be a winner.

Re: time to name my business. choosing a name is not easy
I miss my old company name and still to this day have to try not to answer my phone with the old name. It was "Advanced Services"
I like Moultrie Services or Moultrie Restoration......if your business is heavily based around carpet cleaning the name alone wont do it...so focus on the carpet cleaning and your customers will learn quickly what else you do with a brochure or something of the like.
I would look into the domain! one that is key to your city and service.
