Zipper Spinner
I might be just a cynic, but why would anyone think this was a good idea on carpet? In order for spin bars to create a cyclonic action, you would need to run it at high psi...ever clean carpet at 800 or 900 psi?
With most carpet these days having nothing but clay and glue backings, I can't see running any tool on it with pressures like that. Maybe a basement carpet on slab would work, but even then, sounds destructive to me.
I've watched the youtube videos being produced on other sites and it didn't change my view that this may not be a good idea. For one thing, like all drag wands, they are hard on your back since you have to lean back and pull a heavy, high friction tool over the floor. This tool shows the exact same thing in the videos....even worse than the original Zipper wand in fact.
That sort of pressure (800-900 psi) would also likely leave tracks and patterns on many carpet types, wouldn't it? Ever see a tornado pass over a wheat field? That cyclonic action leaves a pretty distinct swirl pattern and psi waves in soft surfaces....would it not be the same on carpet like that Hydro-Force tool did?
Am I wrong? Anyone try one of these that would like to defend it?

Re: Zipper Spinner
No, I won't defend it.
I've not even seen this tool, but it reminds me of the "spinner" for carpet that interlink was selling a year or so back. It had to be pulled backwards too. But it's spinner was made of a plastic, so I assume it was lighter.
You don't hear much talk of that tool today, so I'll bet your gut feeling in true. Dumb idea.

Re: Zipper Spinner
cx-15 looks like such a dumb tool, thats the hydro force carpet spinner lol
I dont understand a lot of these tools or why ppl get boners over them, always looking for the holy grail.
The zipper got raped in a side by side cgd test at the last trade show, saw pics of the area the zipper did the next day and it looked horrible.. so much resoiling and wicking.
A lot of people fail with hwe on commercial and my theory is that running 600 psi+ like many do blasts the soils into the backing before it gets extracted. A lot of soil/grease is still recovered but a lot gets blasted deep before it gets a chance to.
Just scrub and then run 400psi with high heat, or encap it

Re: Zipper Spinner
I saw the picks of that test with the Zipper, the apologists are claiming cleaner technique was the problem and not the tool. What-ever gang.
I only do hwe on cgd these days and I share your beliefs. The problems from what I have seen are the following:
1. Running too much pressure....never go over 450 myself.
2. Pre-vac is important to prevent mud extraction due to high soil load
3. People tend to rush the wand stroke on cgd in search of speed
4. Over-wetting with prespray
I don't run into wicking issues on cgd and I believe it is from being aware of the above points. I take my time with strokes and will normally clean with a block pattern with 3 dry strokes per path.

Re: Zipper Spinner
yup, often large open areas and cgd drys fast so they like to speed through it.
Ive tried pre vac on the greasy restaurants, the few I have done, and didnt get anything at all in the canister. Probably they vacuum regularly and its just slimy grease in the carpet but not a lot of dry soil... or its so greasy the dry soil becomes slimy soil from getting worked into the carpet
I see some talk about doing cgd at 800-900psi, basically pressure washing

Re: Zipper Spinner
You are definitely right on the grease carpets...no reason to vac as it will be embedded in the grease.
I really don't understand the psi washing commercial like that. I've even seen some companies using a psi washer on theater seats at 900 psi. It would be very difficult to convince me that doing so would ever be a good idea.

Re: Zipper Spinner
The sale on the zippy must have run its course.
I think the only advantage on the zippy hi psi tool over the cx-15 is the two vac slots
