Allied Carpet Care introduction...
Allied Carpet Care is born…
Hello all! As the title of this post states my wife and I have started a CC business. I have been working in the CC biz on and off, part time for over 18 yrs. On and off part time because I am an active duty service member (USAF). I started out cleaning carpets for a company in NJ, before I joined the military. I am committed to running a customer service/family operated company. My wife will be the day residential tech and I will be the “after hours” (5-9 PM) and light commercial tech.
We have been planning this biz for some time now, and have been blessed to be able to save and start the company basically debt free. The only equipment we are financing is the van, but only after we paid off our two personal vehicles. We figured the two car payments could not be used/claimed for tax purposes but the van payment could.
We are looking forward to becoming part of this community and help anyone as much as we can.
Here are some pics of our setup
Thanks All!
Bo

Thanks everyone...Mo, my wife is a realtor so we have a decent amount of work from that...we are not in a hurry...I have 1.5 years before I retire from the AF...so we are just going to get the word out, do flyers, local advertising, val pak...and most importantly, do quality work and let our custys be our best advertising.

Funny, I guess I wasn't the only one doing that in the military. You are approaching this so much smarter than I ever did. You have the overhead at a minimum. You have a great looking set-up. You have a supportive wife....and you have us to help in any way that we can.
One of the things that the military teaches you from the very start is that a team will beat an individual at every task. Even something as simple as making your bunk (racks) every morning was faster and better if done as a team than if each individual was responsible for their own. The same is true in life. Many cleaners start out on their own, flounder, and go broke in the first year, but the cleaner who surrounds themselves with good support will always prosper.
I salute you and wish you the best in this new adventure. If there is anything that I can do to help, just ask.

Doing a quality job is the bottom line Bo. Your wife is one tough cookie you don't see too many female carpet cleaners.
I remember when I first started I went door to door to all the dental offices in town and followed up with postcards. I snagged a couple that way and I still clean them to this day.
PS. Thank your service to this country and you too Mill

Having a realtor in the family is awesome! One of the things I do for the local agents is offer the full house cleaning package (carpets, tile, sanitization, deodor, radon testing) as a closing item. The new owners get to start their new house off with a full cleaning while the costs are paid by the seller in closing costs. It is a win for everyone and then you leave your card with the new owners.....probably get half as return customers and it cost you nothing in advertising.Allied wrote:Thanks everyone...Mo, my wife is a realtor so we have a decent amount of work from that...we are not in a hurry...I have 1.5 years before I retire from the AF...so we are just going to get the word out, do flyers, local advertising, val pak...and most importantly, do quality work and let our custys be our best advertising.
Bo
This method has accounted for a full third of my customers last year alone. Best part is that the houses are empty and you can work them in the evenings to avoid conflicts with the day job...or Air Force in this case.
Re: Allied Carpet Care introduction...
That sound like what we are doing with our realtor package...we are doing one free for every five they send us to be used at any house they like...up to three br

great looking truck! That must be an accelerated reel kit?
If I did a regular van without question I would use that

I didn't want to be rude and not answer, I am located outside of Omaha, Nebraska. I know, not much help to you, but let me throw this suggestion out. Does you wife have a company newsletter that goes out to other agents in the area? If so, make sure you include a section for yourself. I do that local and it normally is just some monthly cleaning advice / tip along with a discount offer, but it reaches about 42 agents and provides an excellent return without ad cost.Allied wrote:That sound like what we are doing with our realtor package...we are doing one free for every five they send us to be used at any house they like...up to three br

Re: Allied Carpet Care introduction...
My AD ended in 2005, but I haven't changed much...well, except for the worn-out body and a lot more grey hair.
Sounds like you are following the same path that I have regarding this business Allied, those newsletters will lead to a pretty good stream in short time.
