Samsung Note Help
This really applies to a lot of platforms, but I am about to put a few .45ACP rounds through my Note 5 phone.
Up to now, all has been well, but I took some important photos today and I cannot transfer them to my laptop, When I insert the USB cable, the wizard comes up, but when I select to import photos, it tells me that there are no new photos or videos on the device..........when there clearly are.
I have spent the last hour screwing with this thing and trying various "fixes" suggested on-line, but nothing has worked. Here is what I have tried:
1. Restarted both phone and laptop.
2. Cleared temp folders
3. Deleted all previous photo folders created from past importing
4. Tried to open device from laptop to cut and past, but doesn't show any files, just a blank screen, but does recognize the phone...just no files to view.
5. Located the .db4 file on my laptop and renamed it to ".db4.old", but had no effect on the problem despite all the internet posting claiming that was the fix.
Certainly, some of you have run into this problem yourselves....what is the fix? It used to work so fluidly until now, but now it is very close to getting a firing squad.

Re: Samsung Note Help
I have a Note3. When I want to take pics off the phone, I do it by hand.
Plug in my phone.
close the box to import pics.
Then I open my photos Library.
Off on the side menu of the window, your phone will be listed on the side.
I click it, and go through the folders of my phone. My pics are in a DCIM folder of my phone.
Find the pics I want to move to the computer by clicking and holding the pic, and dragging it to a file folder on the side menu I want to drop the pics into.
No, not a simple plug and download. But it works for me.

Re: Samsung Note Help
First of all, can you find the photos / folder where the photos are in your phone when you connect the USB from your phone to the computer ? If not, you need to know where they are and don't feel bad, it took me a little while to find it a few years back when I first got my samsung.
Call / text me if needed, remember I'm 2 - 3 hours behind you so it's not too late to text / call me.

Re: Samsung Note Help
I usually find it easiest just to email them to myself.
Could you use that as a work around for now?

Re: Samsung Note Help
Thanks for the advice....here is the situation.
1. Â When I plug it in and try to select the device, it shows up, but when I click on it to view the files....zip, just blank page so I can't manually move them.
2. Â I can't email either as there is no google mail set-up. Â I need to fix that, but my local server was cut off by google mail a year ago so we have a third party provider for emails and it doesn't work well.....something that will be corrected soon when the website goes active next week.
I don't know why it stopped functioning? Â It used to work really well, but not now. Â The import box comes up and it initially starts to download and then tells me that there is nothing new to import......frustrating.
I'll play around with it some more and update you tomorrow.

Re: Samsung Note Help
I dont use the wizard to import. I select "open folder to view files" then find the folder DCIM
your pictures are all in there and you can just drag and drop to desktop or where ever

Re: Samsung Note Help
That's the problem, it recognizes the phone, but shows zero items...just blank screen.
There are 45 photos and 2 videos stored on my phone, yet the laptop see none of it.
Maybe it is a problem with the laptop? It is just so strange.

Re: Samsung Note Help
When you open the phone folder, up top there is usually type of files display options, usually it says "all files" or something like that, sometimes it got reset to ".exe" and the folder will only shows files ".exe" instead of "all files", you might wanna check that ?

Re: Samsung Note Help
VICTORY!!
Turned out to be simpler than I thought. When I plugged the phone into the laptop via usb cable, the phone would start charging. When I dug around a little, I found that it had defaulted the MTP setting to charge.
I just needed to select photo transfer to the default order and I was good to go. How it was changed in the first place, I have no idea, but all is good for now.
I don't normally win against technology without a lot of help. I am actually pretty proud of myself on this one....I still would like to smash it, but that desire will always be there.

Re: Samsung Note Help
I don't blame you with that desire ! I always want to slam my all in one printer when I have connection issues ( it's wireless ).
I pretty much master all kinds of printer wireless connection issues by now all the way to the ip address and mac address, etc, but I still want to smash it when I have connectivity issues.
I seriously think printers are sent from hell to make our life as miserable as possible.
