so, i have a PM(Issac) that also does commercial work(janitorial and hard floors). He bought a used TM(blueline thermal wave). so he can do the carpets for his comm customers.
SO, he his TM has been shutting down after running for an hour or so. He has had it over to JD twice. and they cant find the problem. IT dosnt act up when they run it, to duplicate the shut down. theyve looked at other probable reasons. low oil, fuel pump, water supply... I was over there today(Issacs) and it had black, moist soot coming out of the blower exhaust.
The only thing I can think of is some sensor/module is getting over heated and causeing the TM to shut down. I suggested to put a fan in the back of van directed to the machine to move the hot air away and keep it cooler.
I did invite him to come on here, introduce himself and be apart of the fourm.
Seems that blueline tms had issues with over engineering and placement of sensors.

"Moist soot from the blower"?

I would be very interested in looking down into that blower.

The other cleaner in town uses a Blueline TM, but he has never complained of such problems, but it only takes one (yours) to make you angry with them.

Still curious about the soot.....

Soot,oil,grease- its black. There was little black Splater on the ground where the blowers exhaust blows too. Worn out seal or gasket ? Something leaking into blower exhaust . Told Issac to talk pics and check with other TM supplier/mech that are not JD. I saw that and told him "thatS not normal".

Splatter sounds like it must be oil unless it is sticky.

Like you said, that does not sound normal.

First of all it maybe from over lubing the blower. But either way he needs to run some cleaner through the blower then flush with water. Matt you are right those units were bad about overheating the control Bx is on the back above the muffler, catalytic converter everything that gets hot and heat rises. Try the fan first for sure and open all the doors also.

Blue line Thermalwave is the biggest POS machine I've ever owned, I would check the computer first, if he hasn't relocate it from on top of the motor, relocate it to the coolest spot, which for me in between waste tank and the unit, make a mounting bracket for it, next put a fan blowing towards it to cool it down, that did the trick for me for a while before it started to shut off again, no one could figure it out then until Carlos finally found the problem, unfortunately I forgot what part we bought and it fixed the issue, if moving the computer doesn't help, let me know and I'll ask Carlos if he remembers that part that we changed, after he fixed it, I sold the damn POS and never looked back.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the 1.6 L GM engine. Same engine HM uses but they put the electronics lower on the frame and have not had nearly as much problems.

I'll have him check the electronic module. I suggested using a fan to move the hot air away faster.

Told Issac to talk pics and check with other TM supplier/mech that are not JD. I saw that and told him "thatS not normal".

3 things on this.....

First, is the engine exhaust tapped into the blower silencer or anywhere on the blower exhaust plumbing making them both exit together?
Answering that will help him know where he should start looking.

Second, The splatter coming out of blower exhaust could very well be dirty water the blower is pulling out of the recovery tank. That can happen for a couple reasons that I know of, and really does/can happen, I know from experience, mine has done it on several occasions over the years. It could be mistaken for oil, but if it's looked at closely to figure out if it can be hosed away or does it leave an oily residue, will determine just exactly what it is.

Third, does the owner have an idea about this machine and how things should be working, so he knows what a problem looks like, also is he capable of doing some trouble shooting like I mentioned?........Hopefully so, or he might want to start learning so he can track down problems, because it doesn't sound like much help can be expected from the "Pros" up there, which is no different than here. Razz

I also have some ideas in response to your first post.....I'll add that tomorrow...

So,, Isaac had a couple of jobs, he used the fan. It still shut down; but he could go restart after afew minutes. I told him he needs to find the computer module and get the fan directly on it.
