Keep standard hours or not?

Keep standard hours or not?
I didn't have any jobs scheduled for today, but I still put the uniform on and went to work. I decided that I should treat the day like I would if I was still working for someone else, so I spent some time in the office getting things organized and then went out to clean up the trucks. I still gave the business an 8 hour effort.
What do you guys do when you have a slow down? Is this the right approach or a little too OCD in your opinion?

Re: Keep standard hours or not?
I don't like many slow downs. They are nice sometimes to get rested up but I still crave carpet cleaning even after 23 years. Sometimes I can't get to my first jobĀ in the morning fast enough.
I feel I'm always working for my company even when I dont have jobs scheduled. I do all my maintenance on my equipment and work trucks so there's always something to work on. Thankfully my wife takes care of the office stuff.

Whenever I am slow, I am selling.
Postcards, calling past clients, whatever I can to boost scheduled jobs.
I have the winter to work on marketing. I bust ass on selling when I am able to work.

Re: Keep standard hours or not?
I need to get more disciplined and work more on generating business. June was most profitable month I have had in the 9 years Ive been in business and I reinvested very little of it back into my business. Thanks for the kick in the ass fellas
Re: Keep standard hours or not?
Just spend some money for some postcards to keep on hand Mo.
When it is sitting there, it is easier to get them to the PO or in newspaper boxes, then to have to order them and wait to execute a plan.
I find having materials on hand, helps me get motivated to "do something" when times get slow.
