Karastan Carpet
This doesn't happen too often in my area, but I picked up several jobs in a neighborhood about 45 minutes away, and they all have Karastan carpet. That should be good news except the first two that I did were pet owners who insisted that I couldn't use anything to clean them except hot water.
They each had minor stains from pet urine and , but they both demanded that I can only flush them with hot water per their warranty. I am pretty certain that their warranty was scrapped after the pet urine anyway, but they were adamant about the cleaning method.
I know for certain that the manufacturer doesn't forbid the use of necessary cleaning agents to clean the carpet. They do ban optical brighteners and they do ban brush machines as the carpet will fuzz easily, but light agents are acceptable.
As they say, the customer gets what they pay for so all I was able to do was just wand it with hot water. Did that cure the minor stains? Nope. Did it eliminate the urine smell? Nope. Did I warn them? Yup, sure did.
They were not thrilled by the results.....so the remaining jobs in that neighborhood are probably going to be cancelled. Just not much you can do when customers refuse to listen. They were all fooled by the store into believing the hype....that the carpet was impervious to stains and would never need more than a flushing to look like new.

Re: Karastan Carpet
And I bet none of them will ever actually read the warranty. But the sale pitch from the retailer will be forever ingrained
Re: Karastan Carpet
Haha!
A fool and their money.....
I would rather void the warranty rather than live with the smell and stains.

Re: Karastan Carpet
I actually asked them if they read the warranty card and they both told me that "The salesman told me...." so that was that.
Amazing that these people get to vote....and drive a car.

Re: Karastan Carpet
You said Karastan"carpet", but do you mean K wool area rugs?
I clean the rugs on about a weekly bases because they're so popular here......I think partly due to a Karastan retailer in the local area, and their quality, so they're with most owners for many years.
Carpet or rug, I'd flat out tell the customer my years of experience knows better than to clean without using proper cleaning solutions.
If they insisted I do otherwise after telling them that, I'd say "I will not do the job for you, have a nice day".

Re: Karastan Carpet
It was karastan carpet....don't see much of it in rugs around here.
I did contact the mill today and they told me that low ph cleaners that carry the CRI label should be fine as long as they don't include optical brighteners.
To me, any of the wool-safe products would probably qualify as does the Procyon I believe.
In the end, they get it the way that they want it. No matter if they are ignorant.
