I timed that well

Post by milspec6 on Tue Aug 23, 2016 6:31 pm

After going door-to-door last week, I wondered what the response would be? Well, right now this entire area is hiding in their basements due to tornadoes, 60 mph winds, and severe hail that is smashing out windows all over the place.

Hate to say it, but I have a little smile on my face.

Mud? Heck, it is raining in their living rooms right now!

So far, I have survived. This 2.5 story was built in 1860 and has weathered through enough storms to know that it will survive anything. The rain is incredible right now and has actually washed a parked car down the street.

There will be some water in every basement, including mine very soon. The hail is supposed to end and the storm front move out in another 40 minutes, so it will not last much longer.

I expect calls coming tonight!

The rain is starting to slow down now. I didn't find any damage at my place minus the destruction of all my flower beds, but the town 12 miles away got hammered.

I have 2 homes to look at in the morning already. Windows were blown out and rain in the living room of one and basement flooded in the second. Pretty certain that this will escalate by noon tomorrow.

Believe me Mo, no freebies this time around. I have been losing too much lately to be that generous this time around.

It was a good day over-all.

Still have disagreements with insurance companies over where you can clean glass out of carpets. Their adjuster says that it is not possible to clean broken glass out of carpet and that it all has to be replaced.

Maybe I am wrong, but I call BS on that claim. I asked the guy if he ever dropped a glass and had it break...did he rip out the carpet or clean it up?

With 450 cfm flowing through the wand, I pull out all kinds of crap deep down in the backing every time. Tacks, pins, kids glitter, etc., so why not glass? I can see if you have a infant that is crawling around that you might be worried, but a house full of adults?

I am missing out on a lot of work unless I can convince this adjuster. I might have to produce a demonstration, but even then probably lose the argument.

I am sure that it is, these adjusters are not known to think for themselves, but it makes no sense to me. I am attempting to convince the owners to clean instead of replacing...the insurance can waste the money if they want.

Only 1 so far not related to the storm calls. The storm calls (3) all had my flyers.

what you can do is convince the home owner to ask insurance companies to pay them ( the home owner ) directly for carpet replacement and have the home owner pay you directly, it's not illegal since the insurance companies insist on their policy to cover their behind, the home owner have the right to do what they want on their carpet, it's a win win situation for both of you.

I always educate my customers to hold on to their older carpets if the condition is still decent because newer carpet fibers are not nearly as good as older fibers, a lot of customers actually realized that because they replaced one or two rooms or have a family or friend that bought new carpets and not happy with the quality.

Well, look at that.....just booked 2 house cleanings for later this week from the flyers distributed last week. That makes it 6 jobs now from the flyers....although 3 were due to storm damage.

That is what I thought would be the potential response, so anything above this will be gravy.
