Enzyme Cleaners Dying Empty Enzyme Cleaners Dying

I bought a pail of "Redline" by Masterblend about 2 years ago to replace my old prespry at the time, but I never did open it. I tried the samples and thought it had potential, but never made the jump. The pail was a sale item and I figured I would break into it eventually.

Well, tonight (I guess it would be yesterday now) I opened it and put it to use.....Zilch, nodda, zero effect at all. I thought maybe it was my sprayer at first and so I kept trying it and scrubbing like there was no tomorrow to rid soda spills. It felt like I was just cleaning with straight water. It wasn't that way with the samples, so I think the active enzymes in this product were no longer so active.

I like using enzyme presprays and have used many, but I have never experienced one go bad before. I guess shelf life matters a lot with such a prespray and probably why it was on sale in the first place.

I am starting to think that it is best to buy enzymatic presprays in smaller quantities. I had to go back and re-clean about 20% of the job with "Prozyme" which is also a enzyme-based prodcut except that it was fresh and worked great.

Anyone else having problems with enzyme-based products?

I suspect you got a bad batch.

I have used EnzAll that was almost two years old and it worked perfectly.

Maybe you can take it back still?

Like you Ken, I have never seen this happen either, but I don't know what else it could have been. I scrubbed for an hour just trying to cover about 500 sqft and it didn't seem to affect anything.

Good have been a bad batch or something, not trying to single out any one product, just enzyme sprays in general.

Funny part is that I drove home at 3 am wondering if I should have gone back and re-cleaned those areas? I got a call this morning (early by the way) asking If I was going to clean the building tonight?

I panicked and almost started making excuses for the sub-par cleaning in some areas when she corrected herself and said "Oh that's right, you already did it last night. Looked good".

I don't think they even bothered to check the building at all. I could have sprayed a deodorizer in the air and billed them...they would never have known. wink

They are lucky that I am an honest cleaner......

I've never had enzyme prespray goes bad on me either, but then I only tried power burst and pro zyme, you should at least try to take it back and ask for store credit ? Don't expect them to do it though cause it's been so long, if they do, now that's an honest distributor.

I doubt they would be interested in replacing it either, so I donated it to a local cleaner just starting out. I warned him about my experience, but he was more than willing to accept it and try.

Maybe the water was too hot in my sprayer? I don't know, I just didn't want to have a repeat of that night.

Yup, good vac is important, but what really shines is agitation. It always amazed me how many cleaners I see with no agitation tool on the van. No grandi, no crb, no rotary, no brushes, no nothing. They just create a chemical blizzard and crank the psi on the machine when a little agitation could have allowed far less chemical usage and faster drying.

The house I did today hadn't been cleaned in 15 years. Judging by the scattered crackers everywhere and the hundreds of cigarette butts on the garage floor, I would classify this guy as a slob of some stature.

Hit it with Pro-Zyme and scrubbed it up with CRB and it wanded out wonderfully. I really need to start taking more pictures of these places. The Agent is listing the house on Friday and was really surprised to see white nylon carpet under all that crap.

Best part was that I was only running at 300 psi and it was dry without air movers before I was loaded back up.

To me, agitation tools are more important than the kind of wand you have or type of machine you run. It can make all the other things vastly more effective.

In fact, I really want a smaller crb now just for stairs. I use my 15 inch CRB on them now, but it is a little clumsy. A 10-12 inch model would be quite handy.

a crb is really the best tool out there for doing residential.

it really speeds up the job when its dirty carpet or just anything you would normally have to wand kinda slow to get good results.

I still think the best way to clean residential carpet is pre spray encap boosted with oxygen of some kind, then crb really well and extract with lower psi.

you can wand fast and wide strokes, get the job done faster, no stains come back, and if u dont quite extract an area slow enough its still encap'd and will vacuum out later

I agree with that as well AC, a good encap with an oxidizer was my favorite mix on apartments. The key for me was using it under a rotary extractor instead of the crb and wand combo.....it agitates well and saves a step.

Thats why Ive always been curious about REs like 360i or Hoss. It seems like it pre scrubs and extracts at the same time.

One of the draw backs that I have herd is that its slower. But wouldn't it be the same amount of time as pre scrubing with an agitation tool and then wanding?

The other negative that I have heard is over wetting and swirl marks

I have never seen swirl mark issues on residential, but have seen it on some commercial. I find the rotary extractors far more effective on residential than on commercial as well and choose to wand every commercial unless a grease pit.

The wand is faster for those that don't prescrub, but you are correct in that it is faster than prescrubbing and then wanding would be.

As for over-wetting, haven't had that problem either. Just like anything, pressures and jet size make all the difference.

The only real negative I find is the water usage over-all. I will use about 15% more water on a room running the rotary. So, if you have a very small waste tank, that can be a problem.

Good point about the water usage. I know there is a cleaners in town who has been touting the "Revolutionary" piece of equipment and in turn I have getting info from former customers that the left the carpet too wet. I would assume its the issue with the felt wearing out.

I been saying that I want one for years I just cant seem to pull the trigger on it,

As long as you have good vacuum, the extra water usage is a good thing. It will flush the carpet better and have more impact.

Really, these days a carpet cleaner really should have a good agitation device and a rotary extractor. Even if you only needed the second one once a month, it can make the difference between success and failure.

It also gives your body a break from the wand when the shoulders and back are a little cranky.

You will love that thing Mo. Not trying to boost a sale, but every cleaner should have a rotary extractor. You may not use every day, but when you need a break from the wand or have a very soiled carpet...you will be very glad you have that tool on the van.
