She called me Cheap

Post by milspec6 on Fri Sep 09, 2016 1:06 pm

I did a small cleaning job this morning consisting of a small living room, 10x10 bedroom and a 4 foot hallway. It has every color stain you could think of with poly in the bedroom and a frieze living room / hall.

I quoted her my truck minimum ($100) as it was only 5 minutes away and didn't really care if the stains came out...just wanted to get rid of the grey and she was having some allergy issues that she blamed on the carpet.

I sprayed it with Judons Slop and Gobble spiked with 3 scoops of OSR and extracted with the HOSS Rotary Extractor at 300 psi. I really like running the rotary on bad poly as that crap really requires a very good scrubbing to look clean. I ended up running the HOSS for all areas instead of changing back to the wand.

Surprisingly, the stains came out with the exception of a red that pinked out and stopped. The gatorades, juices, etc. all came out under the aggressive scrubbing of the machine. She was thrilled and said that she has hired cleaners before, but had never seen anything except a wand.....she like the toys.

I did take a few minutes to groom out the oval pattern and dried the frieze with the airpath as the rotary does leave things a little wetter than a wand. The poly was only damp to the touch though.

After 15 minutes with the fan running, I was loaded up and ready to go. She paid me the $100 and gave me a $50 tip before telling me that I was "Way too cheap". I guess maybe I am, but I really like it when my customers tip big instead of rolling their eyes at a large bill.

Get that rotary Mo, this was the first time that I ran it in 2 weeks, but it would never have turned out well with just a wand.

Good work Rob. I need to raise my minimum.

Check out what I cleaned today. This is how some of our low income vets live. The RE would have come in handy on this one.
I pre agitated with my tile and grout brush. One of the tenant said I should write Miricale in my van

I pulled out the 360 for a really impacted poly on wednesday, when the oil is so deep and worked in it really is needed.. unless you use a crb

Cleaned out the burner ring on our #4 lg yesterday, cant believe the heat levels I was getting used to.. its scary hot now. Wand tube will really get you, not just hot but actually burn your hand.

I thought I had a good heat increase when I increased pressure, not sure why it seemed like that worked..

Some jets werent firing so I pulled it apart and got a small mountain of sediment out of the burner ring.

You can see the other side wicking already. Had to do more dry strokes and left fan
Take about an hour to clean that mess

Doesn't look thy stretched that carpet either when installed. Classic sign of a knee-kick installation.

They do take a lot of work with a wand...hint, hint, cough, cough. Cool

I take tips over "thank you" any day, ha..ha....
I somewhat agree with Rob on the whole " average bill and big tip" thing, but unfortunately not all customers tips let alone tips 50% of the total invoice, that's why I never expect tips, just pile it on the invoice as it's going to the same pocket anyway, lol.

You are right Dp, one can't expect tips like that as it rarely happens to that extent. I suppose that I do need to raise my rates at some point, but right now growth is more important.

She never said what she expected to pay nor what she paid the other guys, but I thought the $100 was about right for that small of job. I guess I underestimate what is going on around here in regards to residential pricing.
