Getting Busy
Despite having a dead couple of weeks, things are now ramping up into a frenzy. The storms have brought a fair amount of work and the commercial side is getting crazy with many new buildings being added.
I know that many don't like to clean commercial buildings. Most are boring affairs that provide mind-numbing expanses of carpet and at a late hours. I say most...not all. Mid-September will include this building. Deodorizing, sanitizing primate area, tile in the bathrooms, and there is even some carpet in there somewhere. Never ran hoses across a rope bridge before, so that will be a new experience.

Wow that's cool. Is it a tree house
Commercial has been very profitable as of late and sometimes it's nice to just clean and not have to engage anyone

Re: Getting Busy
There are times when commercial really is far more enjoyable. Just throwing on a set of headphones and wanding for 6 hours works well for me. You make $1200 or so in one night.
This one is going to take a LOT of hose to reach down to the lower regions, but other than that and a few curious apes, should be fun.

Re: Getting Busy
Yup, they have been "very polite" to me all day after I made my podium speech about wanting a contract....and wanting to increase rates.
I'm sure that it it temporary, but they have scheduled over $5000 worth of work over the next 2 weeks.

Re: Getting Busy
wow thats awsome, take some pics of the hoses running through there.. good one to put on your website or a portfolio
Re: Getting Busy
for some reason we have tapped into the church game, idk how but just bid another one today.
Doing a monster one tomorrow with about 18 classrooms, preschool areas, chapel, lots of stair wells
gonna be a long day

Re: Getting Busy
Things keep changing.....will be doing that clean tomorrow night and in a couple of weeks. The CEO called and said that it needs to be done right away due to odors.
This may turn into a nightmare. I have never cleaned this building so it has been at least 4 years since it was last cleaned. The odor they describe is a "dirty, musty" smell so there is likely a mold issue in my mind.
What's worse....they said to keep the outer doors covered so that the bats don't get out! A lot going on with this one, not going to be simple, but I like a challenge.

Re: Getting Busy
Wowza ! I sure hope you don't have to deal with angry bats or apes ! and I sure hope you increase your life insurance payout and include me as the beneficiary, lol, just kidding Bob !
I wish you a lot of luck on that job though, hey look at the bright side, you'll be $ 5000 richer after that's done.

Re: Getting Busy
Just loaded up the van and heading out for my "Land of the Lost" experience. I am going alone as both of normal helpers are scared of bats and no bonus was high enough to get them to go.
Funny how they are not scared of apes, but mention bats and they start shaking?
So, I packed away a couple of tyvek suits to avoid the bat droppings and loaded up everything that I could think off just in case. It will be long hose runs, low lighting, mildew, gum, heavy soil, and bat droppings with an audience of many things that could eat me if they had the chance......what could go wrong?

Re: Getting Busy
Just got home....3:30 am!!!!
It was bad, bad, bad.
1. That smell? They failed to tell me that it flooded a few days ago.
2. Hadn't been cleaned in ages and the concourses that lead to the carpeted area are all dirt! I filled 2 RC99 bags on a small 80x20 area.
3. Roaches everywhere....they didn't run away either. They would run right at me, must have killed 8 of them with the wand.
4. Being a jungle building, it was 88 degrees, 80% humidity, and zero air movement. Between this building the one before it, I was nearly a heat casualty.
5. Access was limited....had to run hoses over the side of the building down about 40 feet. Kind of reduced vacuum a little.
6. Ended up cleaning it twice. Once to rid all the soil and sand and once just with a bio-cide to try and knock down the odor and buy some time.
Oh and the bats....they were not bad at all. In fact, I only had one dive-bomb my head. What was bad was the skunk that climbed into my van trying to avoid a raccoon or cat, I couldn't really tell for certain.
I have to get up in 4 hours to meet my new tech and somehow clean up my van and equipment prior to going back for a banquet hall. I hurt all over right now....probably will not be any happier when I wake up.
Maybe trucking school isn't such a bad idea?

Re: Getting Busy
My mind is stupid. My alarm clock showed 9 am, so I jumped up and grabbed a quick shower thinking that I was running late. Truth is, the clock was wrong and it is on 7:20, so I cheated myself out of an hour of sleep.
I was always bad at math and now it turned my night into a 3 hour nap instead of sleep. I should have stayed in school.

Re: Getting Busy
Trucking I cant believe some of the strange cleanings that you do. Do you realize how bored you would be driving a trailer? The stench was [probably also coming from the high humidity and guano
Re: Getting Busy
Well look at it this way. At least your life is entertaining!
You might be sore and tired, but you have a humorous story to tell.

You have a real mean streak.....
Tonight went much smoother, just a banquet hall of 8200 sqft. Simple and no surprises.
Re: Getting Busy
Wow Matt, I don't know if even Bob can top that zoo job,
I would've gotten out of there when the 1st roach coming at me !
Well if there is one thing I learned about this industry, it's like predicting rain in California, you'll never know when it's going to slow down nor getting busy, but they seems to come one after another, that's why sometimes I disappear a couple of days out of the forum, to work 12 hours day to make up the other 4 hours day the previous week.
That's why this industry is not for everyone, nonetheless I'm glad you got busy again.

Re: Getting Busy
It seems like Im not happy when its slow and when its busy. But I haven't been able to take the boat out in a couple of weeks so Im looking forward to that
Re: Getting Busy
The roller coaster schedule certainly can create some grey hair and sore body depending on which extreme cycle you are in at the time.
Finished the banquet hall last night at 1 am and once I got to bed, it was about 3 am. Surprisingly, the phone starting ringing at 7 am from a Real Estate agent that ended up with one of cards on his mailbox......booked 2 full house cleanings for Wed.
Then went back to sleep. Still have one more 9,700 sqft building to knock out tonight and then a clear schedule so far for Tuesday.
I much prefer being very busy than having no work at all.

Re: Getting Busy
I cant answer the phone once I wake up, I sound like im still sleeping. The realtor probably assumed he was going to get your voicemail.

Re: Getting Busy
That church hurt me idk if I like commercial all that much. Was able to encap a lot of areas, had I not been able to it would have taken forever to finish.
not sure the sq footage but this building was huge.
got there at 930 left at 7pm and it was constant wanding the entire time, also it was 91 degrees in seattle that day.
I think im going to be buying a cimex, or nice shower feed op machine for these jobs. Wanding that much sq ft is tough work.
