Winter Cleaners
It was 72 degrees on Thursday and now it is 27 with a windchill of 14. That is how we roll in the Midwest. A month from now, this will be classified as a nice day, but right now, going from 72 to WC 14 is just not nice.
You know that it isn't a good day when you go out to check on the ceramic heater in your van and come back to the house shivering and cursing.
Life of a cold weather cleaner.

Re: Winter Cleaners
I was cleaning in 23 degrees and this morning. I actually wore pants for the first time this year. I think I'll change my start time to 10:00 am this winter
Re: Winter Cleaners
Wow that had to be rough out your way....it can't be normal. I do adjust my start times in the winter to 10 as well....afternoons even better if there is only one job for the day.
I really don't mind cleaning during the winter, I just leave the doors shut on the van and drive away in my personal sauna. I just hate the clean up at the end of the day and the unloading everything to put inside for the night.
Not having a heated garage / shop around here makes it a pita. I am still looking for a building or re-considering the upgrades to my garage.

Re: Winter Cleaners
Wow, you guys just made me realize how blessed I am with 70+ degrees weather in the winter.
I probably would've quit as a cleaner in the first week down there.

Re: Winter Cleaners
It is a different animal to be sure Dp. The unloading can a couple of hours to your day and forces you to be very deliberate as to what you put on the truck.
That is one of the reasons that I push for commercial only during the winter as a preference. I would rather clean for 6-8 hours on a commercial job 3 times per week than battle residential every day. That reduces the actual loading / unloading to just once.
I do miss winter cleaning in warm parts of the world. It has been a long time since my Laguna Beach days, but it was nice just parking the van in the car port at night and being done with it.

Re: Winter Cleaners
its low 50s here sometimes high 40s, sun still coming out. used to be buried in snow by now, hardly any in the mountains.
just so crazy that one of our resorts didnt even open year before last, first time ever

Re: Winter Cleaners
We normally have about 6 inches of snow on the ground by now, but it all stayed up North this year. Temps are in the upper 40's now and pretty decent for cleaning.
Re: Winter Cleaners
DAMN!
I have 5 very large commercial jobs set for the end of Jan. through the first week of December. Forecast is calling for record snowfalls and ice of over 24 inches after 2 storms pass through during that time frame.
My strong December looks like it might be a bust now.

The way it's been going, looks like you're going to have a very decent winter, including December !! I think that google listing have been working hard for you, enjoy the money :-) if you're hiring, let me know, I might work for food pretty soon, lol.

Re: Winter Cleaners
Well, it has been a much better feeling seeing the schedule fill up with good jobs, weeks in advance during the winter. That last 4 years, I was pretty much just leaving my truck winterized until late March.
Just hope the storms don't ruin the momentum that I am seeing right now.

Well, he does owe me about 40 of them.
Re: Winter Cleaners
Weather makes it quite difficult for you to perform your job well. Sometimes quite difficult to go out there and do your cleaning. Though we still do it.
Re: Winter Cleaners
The show always goes on....if I can get to the job, but that isn't always possible. It should be a very "interesting" week and pretty much certain there will be a power outage for part of it.
Already stocking up on kerosene for the portable heaters.....you never see that in all the Christmas specials.
