Pump will not prime Empty Pump will not prime

So, the good weather is gone for the season and a blizzard is moving into the area tonight and tomorrow with 50 mph winds and temps in the mid-20's at night. Not the coldest nights by far, but enough to take action to prevent freeze damage. Luckily, it will still be about 38 in the daytime.

I don't have any jobs scheduled this weekend, so I just unloaded the van and set out to winterize the system on my butler van. I've been doing this for the last 12 years without any issue at all, but this time, it failed. My Cat pump would not suck up the rv antifreeze at all out of my bucket. Even when I tried to prime it by pouring antifreeze into the pump inlet, it would not build any pressure.

Valves were in the correct position so I am assuming the pump has an air pocket or something. I disconnected the lines to allow the air to exit, but no luck. No draw at all.

After tossing the bucket of antifreeze into the shrubs and cursing a bit, I threw in a ceramic heater and left it at that. With a heater, I have always been good down to single digits which requires 2 heaters. I guess that is the way it will be tonight and it will be a cold day tomorrow to fix it.

I really hate Winters!!!

Crazy i wonder if the water in the pump froze. I would disconnect the outlet side and raise the bucket of antifreeze above the pimp

No freeze yet and I tried to prime it with a bucket elevated up high...no dice. I was running the pump just an hour prior to this so I know that the pump was working fine.....just weird.

I have the time Friday to investigate farther. Just weird.

Does sound like air in the system. It could be dry seals. First try using a short solution line with a open end and put it in the vacuum inlet. Back the pressure regulator down. Check the solution hose to see if water is coming out. If so reconnect as usual turn psi and check out for normal operations.
