Here it is, almost 2:30 am and I have just returned home from cleaning event chairs. Me and my helper started 6 hours ago on cleaning 423 chairs in preparation for a medium sized event. We lined the first chairs up into 3 rows at the start and I just went to town with a sapphire tool. Once I finished off that first bunch, I realized that we hadn't even put a dent in the supply....it was demoralizing seeing stack after stack of chairs waiting to be pulled from the closets.

So, I applied the old advice that the only way to eat an elephant is with lots of small bites. We only pulled and lined up chairs 25 at a time instead of the first 70 that we started with. Sure enough, time went by quickly and my back held out cleaning all of those 423 chairs in just under 4.5 hours to include moving the chairs around and stacking!! That is a pretty good pace in my view and it would not have happened if I had to keep looking at that long line of chairs like when we started. Mad

Despite the hour long drive home and the unloading of all the gear so that it wouldn't freeze, it was a good day. I am proud of that pace despite the sore biceps, lower back, and hamstrings. Poor baby

Next up is 9600 sqft Tuesday evening....if I can get out of bed in the morning.

If I had to do 400 chairs, well, I just couldn't. I don't really like running my upholstery tool anyway.

I cleaned the passenger side floorboard for a friend this weekend, that had spilled coffee all over their new SUV. I remembered why I like cleaning windows.

I bet the payday makes it worth it. Good luck on the 9600 sq. ft.

It actually ended up kind of ugly this morning. There was a communication gap on this job....a big one. The job was scheduled by email and it was missing a comma which resulted in a missed building yesterday.

The email asked for the "ECC Chairs" (the ECC is the building) instead of "ECC, Chairs, and the building that I am cleaning tonight. That is a pretty big difference and a lesson about booking jobs without verbal confirmations.

So, they called me at 7 am (after a 3 hour nap) and were upset that I missed an entire building (5800 sqft). The event isn't until Thursday, but they have a company setting up tables and chairs for the event right now, so it is a big mess.

I am working on getting it cleaned up tomorrow, but I would have to move all the tables and chairs to do it. That would take extra bodies and end up being a very low paying job....and be a big pita as well.

So, there were actually 2 lessons learned last night. Tackle big jobs in small bites and confirm all jobs verbally every single time. This mistake is a costly one.

Fixed it....another really long night (8 hours straight), but it is done. My back is tight and my knees are killing me, but it is at least done the Earth is spinning clockwise again.

Time for about 4 hours of sleep and then off to clean a couple of rental homes while the snow falls the wind howls. After that, I am shutting down for a day to recover.

They never want to move chairs, but we didn't put them back this time since they were going to be setting up the room in the morning anyway.

I did tack on another $1 per chair to compensate for having to move them around. There was very little push back on it, so that helped.
