Almost got away, but didn't

Post by milspec6 on Wed Jan 11, 2017 12:23 pm

I have mentioned this bank cleaning that I have been working on landing since the fall. The manager never would commit to it and just kicked the can down the road. It was beginning to look like it was never going to happen. Right now, I really needed it to happen with things being so slow and this job being about 18,000 sqft.

I had been trying all week to meet with this guy without success and this morning I considered it a dead end. I did finally reach him (sat in the lobby for an hour until he passed by) and he told me that the problem was the insurance company. The only day they are allowed to to have the doors propped open after hours was for the hired cleaning crew to come in and tidy up and vacuum the place on Saturdays. He didn't think we could both operate at the same time.

Well, I called the cleaning Supervisor......it was former client of mine! We talked it out and we worked out a plan where we would clean one level at a time and thus split it up over 2 Saturdays. Management accepted the proposal and the dates are set for later this month. Peace

I still have to submit the official bid price, but we are on the schedule now. It saved my month....provided nothing goes wrong of course, never like to count my money before I earn it.

It goes to show what a small world it really is and how persistence can and does pay off. So many cleaners only work with a phone and would not go down in person like I did, yet it is that personal approach that often pays off. Anyone can ignore a phone or emails, but it is hard to avoid a person standing right in front of them.

Good work Bob. Belly to Belly sales is more often than not is the.best sales.approach

That's one thing about commercial is can make or break a month

Hopefully they'ee not as slow to pay as they are scheduling

That is a valid concern Mo, slow pay is also the nature of commercial, but I put 10 working days into the contract on this one. There hasn't been any push back on it so far.

This time of year, large commercial can really save the month. I should clear over 3k on this job.

If you're close to me, I would put a van, myself and a tech on that job and make it one Saturday instead of two, there is something about splitting the job in half that got me annoyed, lol.
Nonetheless, nice job ! I would never be able to do that ! But now that I think about it, I actually went to property management office once to ask for payment that I never received and they ignored my calls and emails, after a little over a month, I decided to pay them a visit and got my check cheers

I despise the split schedule as well. I didn't want to run two trucks as it reduces my net by quite a bit, but I did want to do it the same weekend. They chose the split so that I could clean during the day when the tellers are still active, but lobby closed.

I still don't like it, but it was their call.

Yeah well if business is slow, then split schedule is the way to go, as for me if I'm still averaging 3 jobs a day in the winter ( so far Razz ), split schedule is a killer because it adds up almost an hour from setting up and packing up.

When busier, I agree, wasted time is wasted money. Right now, I have plenty of time. I still don't like it since weather patterns change greatly around here and the odds of ending up with good weather over a single weekend is far better than over 2 weekends.

Just have to hope for decent weather.

Well the storm seems to be headed your way now that it's leaving California and then the next storm is supposedly to come and leave mid next week from here, I don't think there is any more storms passing by the following week ( the end of the month week ), unless if another storm coming from Mexico or Caribbean decided to invade midwest, I will knock on wood for you Razz
Californian seems to be freaking out over 4 days of rain, I just got an emergency flash flood warning on my phone, lol.

Thanks for the update....forecast is for 1.5 inches of ice on Sunday night. That is a lot of ice and power outages will certainly be part of it. The local power company is already out checking on lines for weak areas.

I have to burn more wood for the fireplace. I'm going through propane like crazy. I think I'll start wearing a sweater in the house

Around here, you wear a hoodie, sweatpants, and wrap up in a blanket in the house.

It's a comfy 68 degrees in my house year round, thanks to propane heat, and central air.

I just topped off my tank at 1.26 a gallon. I've used 200 gallons since last summer, when I had it filled.

I set mine at 68 as well, but the house was built in 1860 and has its own unique ventilation areas. Some areas are in the lower 70's and others around 64.

Propane around here was being sold at 88 cents per gallon back in September. Do you lock in your price early or pay the rate as you go?

It is that way here for pumping stations...U-haul to fill a belly tank is $3.50 per gallon. Home fill of a residential tank is still just over a buck.

We were 99 cents this summer. They offered me a lock for 1.75 but I didn't take it. I gambled it would be lower to pay current pricing, and two years in a row, it has paid off.

The only way to lock here, is to prepay too. You can't just sign for X gallons. You have to pay ahead for it before winter.

I do DP. Though before I bought my house, I had Amish central air. You opened the window and hoped for a breeze.

I grew up in that kind of house....thank God for those crank-out windows, they could grab a lot of air. In fact, it used to get so hot in my upstairs bedroom in August, that I once saw my cat sleeping on top of the old air hockey table that I had. It seemed like a good idea so I spent most of that month sleeping on top of it as well. Talk about good airflow.

They should make a bed like that.....might be a plan?

This is the first house I have ever lived in that had central air. Or any kind of air conditioning for that matter.

Ever been in a truck/car that had heated AND cooled seats? In the summer, those cooled seats are the cat's meow.

I had a car with heated seats....hated them, but a cooled seat might be nice.

It is amazing how spoiled we have become compared to just 100 years ago. My problem is that with each passing day, I wish I was living more like they did in the past.....except for the good plumbing, I would not give that up.
