Cancel job
Just had our third snow storm last night nice last Thursday. I hit some ice yesterday and spun out on the highway and hit the guard rail. The car on the other side of the rode had enough tome to stop and watch me do my spin out. Didn't do a lot of damage just cracked the plastic on my bumper but scared the out of me.
I was expecting last nights storm to drop that much snow, so I woke up this morning and canceled my one and only job. The customer had already moved their furniture but I wanted to live to clean another day. Be careful out there guys snow is a pain but ice can get you hurt or killed. This has been a public announcement by the guy who pooped his pants yesterday.
How are driving conditions in your area?

Main roads are clear but icy in the a.m.
I live on a gravel lane with a short steep hill. Orchard guy past us sends a tractor w/ blade to clear the lane. Last 2 days as the snow has melted abit, the lane gets deep ruts. 2x yesterday I didn't make it up the hill. Second time it was my 16yo niece next door that met met me at the crest of the hill as she was leaving for school in her car. She didn't look down the lane good enough to see me gaining speed to make the hill. The rule on the lane is 1st car on lane has right away.
Oh, and pulling into my drive way... Contact snow/ice . as you turn in its abit more than 90° turn/incline.
By the way Mo, we call that a code Brown. Scene from Monsters vs aliens movie(halarious)

Re: Cancel job
Yeah getting up the hill is the pain is the arse. Every time it anows you will always see cars parked down the from.people not being able to get up the hill.

Well let's see, we got a boat load of rain here a few days ago, mud slide all over the place, my street is fine, but some other major street around the area has a few inches of water standing close to the curb.

Re: Cancel job
I hate cancellation, I just had one today, already got to their home too, spent 40 minutes round trip, wasted gas, time, wear and tear on vehicle, etc.

Re: Cancel job
Same fight here. I left the job last night at 0300 and had to fight like hell to get home in the storm. One good thing about carrying a few thousand pounds in the van is that you can get some good tire flex for traction. Can't stop, but you can roll safely.
I live on a steep side street and then pull a 90 degree into my steep inclined gravel drive, so I know what you mean Matt. Getting it done on ice can be a difficult task.
The one advice I give is to use chain link fence. This time of year, I roll out a section of chain link fence over my driveway and never have a problem getting up it regardless of deep snow or ice. I just pic the corners down with tent stakes.

That pisses me off when people have no regard for your time. Last weekend I went to a tile job on a Sunday mind you. She was moving out and when I got there was stuff all over the place. I just left and told her to call me when she was ready
Re: Cancel job
Just to throw this out, but they feel the same way when we have to cancel. As long as they tell me prior to my hitting the road, I don't get too upset, but if it happened after I already made the trip...that pisses me off.
