Lost good size job.
I hate downtown area, access is hard, parking is hard, people are generally not friendly towards service people like us, today I had a job that a portable is just not going to cut it, carpets are almost black from soils, tried to open the window, this old style window is really hard to open but I managed to open it and then it's stuck and won't open further, I looked up and the blinds was the cause for it not to be able to open further, my hoses won't be able to squeeze through there.
Customer offered to take the blinds off and reschedule to tomorrow morning due to lack of parking, I agreed to reschedule, he called around 6 pm and cancelled, it's almost $ 500 job ( not even 1000 sq ft ), I tried to find another route as he said that he couldn't get the blinds out, this is a commercial blinds, so it's super long and I'm sure it's heavy, I tried to persuade him to ask his property management if we can park in the back alley, it's twice the distance for the hoses, maybe even longer than that, but it's still doable, the problem is the alley was blocked by those lockable poles so that no vehicles can go through. He agreed to ask but still cancelled the appointment.
I hate these places, don't they think that eventually they need their carpets cleaned ? May be they are used to dry / bonnet cleaning ? Doesn't make sense to me, I still wish he would call tomorrow morning but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Re: Lost good size job.
I miss the old days when people had doggy doors. A hose fit so well in them.
Somebody has to be cleaning those carpets so there must be a way.

Re: Lost good size job.
You win some and you lose DP. You cant be all thing to all people... Unless you also use an OP machine and portable
Re: Lost good size job.
As a wise old cleaner once told me "You don't get to be the hero every time".
Re: Lost good size job.
This is one of the few businesses where you can be the hero and the next stop you're the a hole that doesn't know how to clean carpet

It sure can make a monkey out of you quickly.
Re: Lost good size job.
That's so true Mo !
I would push harder on portable use without raising my original quote if the carpet is not so damn dirty, I know I can't be a hero all the time but for something close to $ 500, I'm sure he's going to say a few words if the carpets don't come out clean.

Re: Lost good size job.
Like I always say, expectations are really key. If you know the results will not live up to theirs, it needs to be settled prior to cleaning. At $500, I would expect a very clean result as well.
Re: Lost good size job.
I think for this particular job the small square footage and long hose runs you maybe be able to clean it faster with a pre scrubber and portable? That's if you can take all the equipment that you need in one trip
