Watch those free spotters
I just cleaned for a lady out in the rural areas and she told me the horror stories about her last cleaner. One of her biggest complaint was that the free spotter he gave her made the pet odors worse and actually left a bad stains behind.....it turned the spots blue.
He also told her that he makes it himself, so she decided that he must not know what he is doing with chemicals. I looked at the bottle, he didn't make it himself, it was the typical give away that people have their company name attached to.
In this case, that cleaner's freebie just cost him a $375 ticket and 4 of her neighbor referrals which are now booked for mid-month. They are not always a good idea, but if you choose to give them out, at least teach them how to use it and don't tell them you made it when it clearly isn't the case.
No sense in shooting yourself in the foot over such stupid things.

Re: Watch those free spotters
I would guess she must've used some other store bought spotter on the stains first ? Or the pet had eaten a blue crayons without her knowing ? Anything is possible with customer's complaints especially the one that has a habit of spraying spotters on the carpets.

I am sure that you are right about that Dp, but it was her conclusion that gets a cleaner into trouble. To her, that free spotter was the problem and you don't get to be there to refute it. She just fired her cleaner over it and he will never know why?
I just don't see the value in those freebies.

Yeah that's very true, I wonder how many customers I lost because of those free procyon spotters I gave out, lol.

Hopefully none, but we all know how strange customers can be. I am always afraid that I am going to lose them if their pets don't like me, so I spend a lot of extra time making sure that they do.
Re: Watch those free spotters
the only spotter I like giving out is diluted encap solution with maybe a tiny bit of oxygen in it, which is prob dead by the time they use it lol
encap solution will never get you in trouble

Re: Watch those free spotters
No it will not, but it will not be of much value either as all most customers can do is scrub and run. I do agree though, at least it will not cause you to lose customers from a chemistry mistake.
Re: Watch those free spotters
Well it can bite you still if the customer use that spotter right away after you left on his / her $ 50,000 persian rug

Re: Watch those free spotters
That is a good point Dp and now that I think about, many encap products also contain optical brighteners so uneven usage could do the same thing as "resolve" by leaving little bright halos on a carpet.
Might be better off leaving them a coupon or something....maybe an autographed head shot?

Re: Watch those free spotters
I just saw some residue left behind with folex. I usually don't see that with that product. She probably dumped a whole bunch in there or used a couple of things
Its funny how customers think that the carpet is clean in those spots. " I just need you to get the carpet as clean as the spots I have all over the carpet"
