I decided to use the Roots 45 dual splash blower that my TNT came with but I did notice that lobes were dirtier than the other 45 I had. It sat with penetrating oil while I refurbished the machine. I had heard that you can clean the blower by flushing it with hot water so I gave it a shot. Looked like it ran clear with about a quarter gallon of water.

I normally back-wash mine every quarter...I forget how often Butler suggests to do it, but it does help a little.

I have always wondered if anyone used any additive to the wash...the manual always called it a "solution", but never specifies anything outside of hot water.

Good to know, I did try some soap free once, but I wasn't sure if that was a good idea at the time.

Haha, I liked the reaction when the hose flew off from the tnt power... that was funny Mo

looks like it worked pretty good, regular vinegar Ive used for descaling equipment and coffee maker etc but im not sure it would be safe for a blower.

Mo, I see it looks like you got a new foot valve, if so what did you use for a spring on it??

I was going to go to the tractor supply store to get a new one but I decided to keep the old one I just cleaned it.

Would you mind taking the screen off of it (held on by the one screw on the top of it), and taking a pic of the spring it has, which would include the stem the spring goes on??

It's working, but I just bought a new one, that came with a really weak spring, and I'm trying to fugue out if what I came up with is even close.  wink laughing

I did have that surprise look on my face when it blew the hose off. Im just glad the gunk was already out of the blower

The best part of your reaction is that it was a big smile and little laugh. That tells me you are still enjoying your life as a cleaner. Many would have started yelling and throwing things when that hose blew off. I would save that video as a reminder down the road when things get rough....never lose the child in you. tongue

Well, I did mine today and man was it nasty!...

I had to run 3 gal of hot water with a lot of dish detergent in it until it flushed out all the gunk/brown water out. Then I ran another 2 gal of clean water thew it to rinse it out. After that 2 hours of running and about 1/2 a can of WD.  laughing 

The air had gotten so bad smelling coming out of my silencer, I could barley take it anymore.

It now smells like "green apples", because that's what flavor soap the customer had.  dancing 

Besides not stinking anymore, I'm not sure there's another plus to doing this???

I would imagine better air flow would be the other benefit. Did you jack up your driveway?

on a serious note, how do you flush your blower ? I've never done that before, in the video I saw Mo pouring the water in but it didn't show where he poured them in, also how the heck the water spits out from in front of the machine, I thought carpet cleaning blower is positive displacement ( one way only ), can someone explain this process please ?

DP pause the video at 27 seconds, you'll see that I took the 90 degree pipe that goes into the tank I flipped it over and instead of the blower sucking air from the tank I poured water in the pipe so that it could suck the water instead.

Actually DP have some one film the process you stand in front of the exhaust port and have someone else pour water in the blower and then post the video on this thread.

I just took off the filter inside tank, and poured soapy water into the intake hole.  wink
