Officially old
The weather finally reached Spring-like with upper 60's and sunshine, so I decided to throw on the new shoes and start the marathon training with an easy run. Now it has been almost 2 years since I hung up my shoes and I knew that I would be a little rusty, but as a runner for almost 30 years, I figured that it would come back to me pretty quick.....WRONG!
Those 2 years felt more like 20 years and it was ugly. Both knees hurt so much that I limped badly for the first 15 minutes and even the neighborhood dogs, who used to bark and chase me a couple of years ago, just wimpered and walked away...I guess they saw no sport in it.
At least there was about a half mile towards the end where the knees eased up and my stride started to feel more natural, albeit slow, so there is some hope. I am going to be so sore tomorrow.....it will be a long 6.5 months getting to the MC Marathon starting line this year.
I always say that you are never "getting old", you just wake up one day and find that "you are old". Today felt like that day.

I feel your pain. After I hurt my back this year, getting good mileage on the bicycle has been hard and at times, when my 8 year old son will out peddle me up a hill, humbling. I just keep telling myself that slow and steady will pay off. Good luck to you and your training.

Running is a gravity sport....I feel it with every step and especially when I collapse.
This will be my last attempt at the marathon. After this one, I'm going back to sand volleyball, open water swimming, cycling, and softball. I just don't have the same enthusiasm like in past years.

Do you know where I can find a pick up game of beer pong?
