I have to admit I've never done this in the two plus years that I have owned this wand. I figured just getting the lint out of the slots was good enough but I was wrong. Do you guys do this? How often do you do it?

Best way to clean and smooth is to get a case of beer (critical) then call a buddy with a pick up truck....find a nice smooth road (critical again) consume all beer (critical) the buddy drives real fast down smooth road with you hanging off tailgate and holding wand down firmly against said road to get that smoooooth finish. do not let buddy handle wand....we are Pros! and only the trained should even touch them.

I still need a glide!...I called some company to inquire and he was shoothing them down...talk about confused!

I do it pretty often, and keep mine clean before it builds up and gets bad.

But the VT Wong that I was using would clog supar easy with that glide style and that stupid bolt in the middle. The new Wong I'm using, hardly ever clogs.

I can't imagine working without one now, and I bet you would feel the same way once you've used one.

Call Tony, I bet he has one for "you Wong" wink

Holy moly just google glides and they are expensive

The best deal on glides are

http://caltoolusa.com/home.html

I believe someone here liked there bannana glide form mytee

wanders products has good deal on glides but you have to be a real cleaner and I think that means not posting on this forum. Just Call Tony at Caltool , John at Mitee and Joe at Wanders and tell them Mo at the lounge sent you. Tony will probably give you a good deal, John will not return your call, and Joe will give you the retail price or hang up on you hard to tell Very Happy

seriously I could just buy about any 3d printer and probably pump out glides

its basically plastic round stock with a channel and slots/holes, so you could also just machine them.

just another example of extremely overpriced equipment in our industry

So the slots seem to be best?....I seen some called green glides but the site is not showing me much...I like to see something. I may get my wand too...I think im going to get the glide for the cleanco wand if they make one and not for the Ti wand yet....if I like the glide I will get one for the Ti and will have both ready.

LOL, yes Joe sells green glide for $ 99 to "real cleaners", try not to mention this forum or Mo or any member that posts here, you might get lucky, in my experience green glides are the tightest, Tony's last the longest and I personally would avoid banana glides ( from Mytee I believe ? )
Or if you are very patriotic, call Lisa at green glide and order direct from her for $ 169 plus shipping, why ? Because she provides glides for free to Veterans that's starting out in this industry or struggling.

There is a difference between glides. The amount of teflon and how rigid they are to keep the vac port from collapsing over time. If you need a bolt to keep the port open....well I'll let you figure that one out on your own which one it is.

Don't get me wrong, all glides do the same thing and there are ways to achieve that at different price points. A high quality glide like the Green Glides hold there shape without additions and are probably the best quality....and most expensive.

Holed glides clog easy, so if you don't vacuum well...forget it.
Slotted glides are tough to clog, but can leave tracks once they wear down.
Hybrid glides are just that, but they really combine the worst of the others and meld into one glide.

I prefer slots, especially if you see any gravel or do lots of commercial. If deep pile is your standard job, you might prefer holed glides and a good vacuum.

Don't fear the whispers, you can buy a quality glide just about anywhere. Guys like Joe will not bite your head off, actually, Joe will probably give you a lot of information on glides that you can take with you.

I don't know what happened with your call to GG, but until you work with a glide, you will not realize what you are missing.

As for smoothing the glide....I need to get on that as mine is showing some scrapes. A simple piece of fine sand paper should do the trick.

If you want the information, call Joe Bristor at "Real Cleaners". He is not for everybody, but the man is a wealth of information.

Beyond that, you just want to find one that fits your particular wand and not a "universal" type. Just because it is the right length, does not mean that it will fit well without leaks. Find one that was designed to fit your wand and you should do fine.

I am always amazed when I see cleaners that tell me they can just easily remove the glide when they want more agitation. All of mine are GG and they take a mallet to install them....they fit very snug and leak free, which is what you want.

Now please correct me if im wrong. Lisa and Green invented the Glide they use virgin teflon and are smoother and more expensive. According to Tom a Cal Tools partner Cal Tools uses recycled teflon. DP has tried both glides and he says that the cal tool glide last longer.

I bought nt VT wand from Joe who was a distributor of Cal Tools and I don't know if my wand is a Cal Tools glide or someething else but I did need a maillot to remove mine.

Dave bought glides for his RX 20 and loves them they fit and work great.

I maybe wrong but you can ask Lisa at greenglides. Joe doesn't carry Green Glides

The glide business changes rapidly depending on the wholesale costs from Lisa at GG. Joe used to carry GG for certain as I purchased a set for my rx-20, my pcq, and vt12 wand through Joe, but that has been awhile so I don't know the current status.

The GG do wear faster than the Mytee banana glides that I used on the bentely wand, but I still prefer the fit of the GG.

There are two types of Teflon.
One is Virgin what this means is it can be used in the food industry
It has a brighter white finish and it is noticeable difference.
GG are all made out of Virgin Teflon.
The other Teflon is Mechanical grade meaning it is NOT suited for the food industry but more for mechanical fields, it still offers great friction free performance but it is not as pure, possibly even recycled byproduct of the virgin Teflon.
Tony has said that he uses both.
The difference might be noticeable but it has been a long time from when I had GG, the difference that we may be feeling is the actual size of the glide.
GG may be machined down a bit from the actual round stock they come in meaning a little smaller contact patch, this would also relate to the GG wearing out faster....they may be wearing exactly the same but if GG are just a bit smaller shape then they would appear to wear out faster.
Tony's glides he is providing me with DO SEEM a little bigger around meaning he is just machining the slot to fit the head and not changing the actual size of the round stock, this would suggest the longer wear or life of the glide, also the contact patch would be a little greater and therefore give you a little harder push pull stroke do to just that little bit more friction due to the size.
You guys need to remember that our wand is like a race care meaning that the slightest change will be noticed because we are so in tune with the wand and its performance.
Everyday people just go and add air to there car tires no big deal.....a race car driver/team can feel and win a race with a 3-5 lb air adjustment.
Meaning that the driver can actually feel that little change because he is one with the car, just like we are one with the wand.
Both glides will make a huge improvement at first and at first you may not even notice, but after you have become one with a GG or a CT G you will more than likely feel the difference between them, it is very minor but still it can be felt

Post by SCCC Mon Jul 20, 2015 2:37 pm

There is a reason Lisa and her GG are a 170.00 item. I think that there is more machine time in her glides, meaning I think she is more than likely machining the WHOLE GLIDE (girth ) DOWN just a bit.
I know she is paying a machinist to do the glides, that shop rate would not be much if it was just the pass for wand lips and hole configuration, but if the hole piece itself is being turned down to a slightly smaller diameter, then I could see her having a considerable amount of cost for each glide.
This would result in the greater price difference.
