LP Hose Question Empty LP Hose Question

Post by milspec6 Tue Dec 27, 2016 5:01 pm

I was looking forward to finishing the tank install, fill it up, and test it out, but hit a snag.  The current hose is way too long for this set-up, even tired coiling it up, but it was just too much bulk.  It was originally being fed off a bbq on the ground so it was a full 10 foot hose of 3/4 inch.  Now, I only need about 4 feet.

I don't really trust myself to cut down the old and re-crimp it so I decided to just order a new factory hose.  The only one that I found around here were pretty pricey, but it was a 6 foot length which would work a lot better.  The only thing is that the guy made a point to tell me that it was only rated for a max of 5 psi......I have no idea what that means to me.

Anyone know what the psi is in our type of systems?  I know that they are low psi systems, but how much psi is there past the regulator?  I just don't want to make another mistake on this hose and be delayed again.

Looks like the PSI on the hose is under 1 PSI, unless you have a high pressure regulator.

LP Hose Question Empty Re: LP Hose Question

Post by milspec6 Tue Dec 27, 2016 6:35 pm

Good point, it should, but I can't read it. I will look it up by part number.

I think I might just start all over regarding the plumbing.....again. I fought with this the last time and I still don't think it is correct.

The hose that I had been using is rated for 35 psi (I think we run around 4 psi now that I think about it, but will check) so it was over-kill. The thing is though, it has 3/4 ends, but the hose ID is only 1/2 inch according to the markings, so that wouldn't be sufficient.

I think I will call LG in the morning and just start over. I am tired of getting a headache over this nonsense.

LP Hose Question Empty Re: LP Hose Question

Post by milspec6 Tue Dec 27, 2016 7:18 pm

Okay, I just emailed the people at LG and realized that I asked them this question a year ago as well. Now I remember the situation and how I got here.

Their website lists Rego LV404B39 as the proper regulator for the #4 LG heater and provides the price at I think $175. That is the regulator that I purchased and it is actually the INCORRECT part and uses a 1/2" outlet fitting instead of 3/4"

The correct regulator is the Rego LV404B96 for the #4 LG and it does have the 3/4 inch outlet. So, the hose was modified to fit the wrong regulator just to get things going, but now needs to all be replaced.

What a waste of money and time. I think I will point out to LG in the morning that their website still lists the wrong part for the regulator. Maybe it will save the next guy close to $200 after shipping.

Don't get me wrong, they have been great with customer service and offered a lot of useful information when I was thinking about installing a #2 to boost my Butler's winter performance. Their website just sent me down the wrong road from start and screwed everything up.

At least I was able to find the right regulator for $90 to my door. That was a good find....maybe I can sell off the other one to recover some of the loss.

Now, I just have to find the 3/4 hose.....

Good move not cutting and crimping the old hose. There's no way in hell I would trust that.

The LG website does look out of date. They're good people and always helpful

That was my thought too...safety is a premium when playing with gas and open flames.

Scott has always been great and generous with his time, it is just a shame that the information on their site is wrong regarding the regulator. It has caused me to waste both time and money chasing this issue.

LP Hose Question Empty Re: LP Hose Question

Sorry I missed this thread. The psi is less than 1 probably about 1/2 psi but it is the volume that is why the larger line instead of a 1/4 line. But you should be able to get a hose to length at a hose repair shop. Take the old one with you so that they can match it with the same type of hose or better. If the old one is in good condition they may can cut it down and put a new end on it.

Thanks ACE, but I don't trust the shops around here to do it. I am just going to bite the bullet and buy a factory one. I don't need another surprise.

LP Hose Question Empty Re: LP Hose Question

Post by ACpower1 Fri Dec 30, 2016 9:13 pm

your only dealing with tank pressure Rob,  its very low.

but on another note..      those Rego regulators are CRAP!!!     I burned through my 3rd one in less than 5yrs $175 each..         I called little giant after the 3rd ones diaphragm blew out and they told me they no longer use the Rego brand for this reason.

they sent me the new brand of regulator they now sell with all their units.

Les at judson can tell you what the fittings are for the hose, when I bought my judson the LG came with some really thick LP hose and also the self crimping fittings.. they are easy to attach and tighten down super hard

Well, that figures....the Rego showed up today.  I guess I should plan on replacing it at some point soon.  Thanks for the heads up.
