Just stopping in to say hi
My name is Kevin, I'm a 3rd generation carpet cleaner here in Florida. We are an original Professional Carpet Systems franchise embarking on our 30th year in business. I thoroughly enjoy my job and look forward to solving cleaning issues every day. A skill I have that seems to be somewhat rare is carpet dyeing. PCS perfected the art of dyeing and trained their franchisees in the beginning, I was taught by my dad who was taught by his who was in turn trained from the source. Carpet dyeing is a blast and saves people a ton of money. We also clean carpet, upholstery, vehicles, and grout, repair flooring, offer water restoration and vct strip and wax, maybe a few other services that I missed. Like I said, I am passionate about my job and wouldn't trade it or the life lessons for the world. My wife thinks I'm nuts and can't understand why I spend my free time tinkering with my tools (thats what she said), searching the internet for better cleaning techniques, or learning how to market my services better. So thats me...

Welcome, you're right, dyeing carpet is a lost art. I get asked for it on occassion, but I don't have enough skill at it to attempt it.
It would sure be nice to start a thread on how to dye a carpet...hint....hint

Welcome Kevin, that sure is a big smile in the picture! Your fellow franchisee from Superior, CO was my IICRC instructor in a couple of classes.

Its called tinting. Basically you mix up the dye in your cleaning tank and dye just the faded walkways and areas near windows that may have faded with a dye wand (looks like a metal paint gun with a 36" extension wand and cone jet on the end. Then you hook up your wand and clean the entire carpet with the dye just like a regular clean only you don't and I mean don't overlap, that would be bad mmmkayy. So now you extract the residual water with two dry passes once you've tinted the entire carpet, crank the a/c and let it dry. The carpet looks great and the customer raves.
Re: Just stopping in to say hi
would anyone be interested in a video on carpet dyeing? I'm not sure when I'll do the next one, have a few bids out there right now. We replace so much carpet these days that we don't turn as many dyes. A few years ago we were dyeing as much as cleaning due to the economy. Everyone was pinching pennies and a few hundred for a dye was far cheaper than several thousand for replacement. Our market pays around .50 a sq ft for the dye.

spot dyeing is best learned in a class and perfected in the garage and field. They sell spot dye pens http://www.americolordyes.com/carpet-dye-pens.php that are almost idiot proof. I give these to the guys till they get comfortable mixing their own spot dyes and applying with a trigger sprayer with patience.
