Brown to purple carpet
We did a carpet job last week that went pretty normal. Yesterday, the owner called & said that the edge of the carpet by the tile turned purple & bleached out. I'm hoping to be able to just stretch & trim the discolored carpet but if not, I may have to buy a LR of carpet. Anyway, what could/would make this happen? Never had this occur in 13 yrs doing carpets.

Re: Brown to purple carpet
We did the tile before the carpets. I guess I should have mentioned that. If we are doing both, we do tile first in case we get tile cleaner on the carpet by chance. I have tried to recreate this in the shop by putting our tile cleaner directly on some scrap carpet & drying it w/o extracting and had no adverse color changes. I was thinking bug treatment but idk.

Re: Brown to purple carpet
Interesting isn't it?
My first thought was just an incompatibility between tile cleaner and carpet pre-spray causing that shift, but it does look suspiciously like there might be pesticide in play.
I used to see pesticide issues a lot in the old farm houses around here and they were about a 2 inch wide stripe along the baseboards that would turn green or yellow on a neutral carpet.
Your issue looks about 2 inches wide and resembles more of a spray fan pattern than just moisture absorbing...little too consistant. Never seen purple outside of a meth lab, but maybe the brown carpet became purple from a green reaction?
One thing is certain, it doesn't look fixable by treatment as it is bleached out as well...probably stuck with your plans to repair or replace.

Could be something that was previous used to clean the tile, than an adverse reaction happened when you cleaned? Bug spray? Sounds familiar.

You should be able to power stretch that out though.

Yep, I'd agree, Someone used some sort of bleaching cleaner on the Tile.
And like Ryan said, looks like you could easily power stretch that and remove the bleached area..........I did one last week where I surprised myself. The carpet wasn't even loose but I worked it in steps, and stretched it almost 3" to remove/fix a pet damaged area at a doorway. I just wish I had video of that repair!!

I agree with the power stretch plan. Add an extra row of tackless. May require more than just a knee kicker however.
