Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
We used to call tabs pads here in the Northeast. Where do you get your blocks and tabs from? Just ordered some from a company snapblockmaker. About $30 for yellow blocks and $13.99 for 1,000 4x4's.
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I pick up a few boxes when my truck being worked on at Jon Don. That way now shipping costs. I think about $30-34 a box. Are yellow more density or stronger or for looks?
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I've always called them blocks n chips.
I get them from my local Janitorial Supply store. They are less expensive there than any of my local CC suppliers.
But I'm really liking Sticky Tabs lately, and order those from Wanders Joe.

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I got them from Jon don as well, $ 30 / box of foam blocks ( the blue one ) I like the blue ones best cause they're strongest and plastic tabs is about $ 90 for 10,000 pieces.

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
Sticky tabs here want t try the blocks. The sticky tabs I use over and over the clients never take them off
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
These yellow blocks are supposed to be the strongest available, I will review them when I get them.
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I will use either blue blocks or sticky tabs. Like was already said, I have many customers that just leave the blocks or tabs under the furniture year round.
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
was looking into disposable furniture sliders but I found them for so cheap I dont need to make them.
they are a nice color and we just leave them, makes moving furniture so easy. customers just leave them and like it, we tell them its easier to keep their house clean and vac behind stuff

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
btw its harbor freight, 3.99 for 4 large and 4 small
when we move furniture were charging more than enough to make it worth it, small furniture sticky tabs and foam blocks

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
^^I do that sometimes to if I need them to move a heavy piece of furn, I'll just leave them under there rather than hurt myself removing them.
I don't move furn that's so heavy to need sliders often though unless I have a real good reason/necessity. Like re-stretching or floods mostly.......other than that "my insurance co. Prohibits me from moving furn. over 50 lbs."! It works well.

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
So foam blocks are also furniture movers too. Sorry I've always used sticky tabs
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
No, he's talking about "sliders", not blocks.
Prob is the HF sliders are cheap and don't work well compared to good quality ones...............get what you pay for. They aren't as slippery so you sometime loose them when sliding the furn, and the foam used doesn't help either, but the price is right if you're leaving them behind.

I really don't mind moving furniture to a point, but I tend to get the "weird" ones. You know, the shrine dedicated to the deceased poodle, the wooden tobacco indian, slot machines, etc.
In fact, I booked a residential for Monday that is being prepped for sale listing. The lady tells me that there aren't any bad stains and that it would be empty....except for the new fridge sitting in the middle of the living room. I ask her if she means a dorm-sized fridge? She tells me that is a twin door upright with over-head freezer...still in packaging.
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I hate moving furniture it wears me out. Anyone use a lift buddy?

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I prefer the business model that doesnt involve lots of furniture moving, ive done it both ways and the big tickets are nice but man its so tiring and burns out employees plus the bit of risk that comes with it.
I just tell the customers we ask that the rooms are cleared and ready to go, we will work around the larger items at our normal pricing structure. If they want it all moved and block we will but its an expensive job so most people prefer minimal moving.

Mine is rusting away on the truck floor, used it once. I will try and incorporate it into my spotting bag. Should use it more often, thanks, for reminding me I even have one. Finishing a job today 4 b/r's, massive play room, filtration 4-5 inches out from edges, white poly plush. Moved every frikin stick of furniture and blocked and padded. Ticket $1,1179. Will post that on Big invoice post. Don't be afraid to price it up there! The people that can't afford it will pass, those that can will buy. You make more money. People will spend more if they feel that you are going to do it right. You may think you are making more money by not moving the furniture, but, I hear it all the time " they didn't want to move the furniture"! You become the company that doesn't move the furniture. I prefer to move it on big ticket jobs. Otherwise I price by percentage. I measure, then take the room at %. Example. 10x12=120 s.f.
@65%= 78 s.f., yes I eyeball it. Only one customer questioned me on me estimate. I measured it out with him. I was within 8 s.f ( in his favor), he was impressed. been a customer for over 20 years.
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I don't move stuff and block/tab their stuff. As a general rule, I find the people that want every stinking thing moved, are the type that
1 are nit picky as heck
2 have toys all over and expect "maid service" to be included in the carpet cleaning
3 think all this extra work should be FREE.
4 Never clean under ANYTHING they have
Yes, I will move a FEW things, on the light side, up to say, a recliner. No beds, couches, or anything like that. THEY can move that stuff if they want it cleaned under.
I quit moving all their stuff because of what I was running into. If the competition wants to deal with it, they can have it. There isn't enough money in it here, nor is it worth all the headaches and risk for me.

Hi, I found a company that supplies Jon Don foil carpet tabs. They are manufacturers of carpet tabs. They have clear plastic tabs and foil tabs. You can buy it wholesale price, which is much cheaper than Jon Don. The website is:

Great tip! Thanks!
Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
I have so many great customers that do not expect bookshelves and beds moved I just dont mess with those jobs really. When they call I tell them its .43c/sqft for that service.
sometimes they go for it and its a great job but tends to be a burnout day.
most customers have no problem just shifting the couch back to the hardwoods with their husband in the morning and same with coffee tables etc. Beds? who in gods name wants to move a bed in a bedroom that is like 3ft larger than the bed on all sides, its okay if the bed is super light but big bed frames no thanks.

Re: Blocks and Tabs, Blocks and Tabs
How much you want to bet that Janet is related to that company ?
She basically gets free advertising which I'm perfectly fine with IF the product is actually cheaper, the problem is it's not, and she claimed that the company supply the suppliers store ? How can the suppliers make $$ if the price is not substantially cheaper ?
Janet, I think it's time to come clean now, don't you think ?
