If you were offered a desk job that paid close to 6 figuires, would you give up cleaning for a living? I will even sweeten the pot a little. Full benefits, 3-weeks vacation, M-F schedule, Weekends and Holidays off, 8 hour days with paid lunch break, pension plan, employer matching 401k plan, and 3 sick days per year with pay.

How about now? Now would you go back to working for someone else?

It's been a long time since I worked for someone else, so I know it wouldn't be easy. But with the benefits and retirement I'd give it some thought, since I'm not getting any younger, and cleaning is only getting harder with age. But I really doubt I could do it. Smile

This is weird, I was just thinking about this the other day, for 6 figures I'd most likely will take it because I can get someone who can work in my place for $ 30 - $ 40 k, now whether I will last or not, that I don't know, but for 6 figures I will try my best to make it work.

Well, I was in line for the very job that I described (for the second time in 3 years) and I had a lot of backing going into it. So much support that I put the box truck build on-hold in case I decided to close up shop and sell everything off. It looked like a lock this time.

To make a long story short....I am still a carpet cleaner. In fact, that was the end of things or me and I will be resigning when we get closer to Spring.

It is going to be time to feast or famine in 2015 without the safety net...I might as well start stocking up on my oatmeal now.

I hope so....like my Uncle used to say during the holidays, "You only live once, so might as well make it a short one."

He never was a very bright guy Laughing

As long as you save enough $$ during May through September, the way I see it you should be fine because October through December is usually still a surplus for me but worse case scenario down there with the snows and storms and such, I'm sure you're still breaking even, so your savings should be enough to cover January through April. And aside from politics, the economy is climbing up, unemployment numbers are down, means people are spending their hard earn $$, I'm optimistic that 2015 will be a better year economically.

The economy is getting stronger out here as well and I still don't have a lot of competition in my new areas. Once things warm back up and the TNT / Box truck start rolling, I think I will feel far more comfortable.

At least I will be walking out with about 6-weeks of vacation to cash out that I had been saving up. That should help make a strong push in the Spring and wrap the box truck.

I just can't help, but feel a little bitter about being passed over again. This time I was told that I wasn't qualified, yet the 2 people set to interview for the position have far less qualifications....hard not to be insulted by that reality.

It's human nature to feel bitter but in reality it's their loss not to hire you.

Thanks Dp, but I guess it all works out in the end.

I get my motivation to drop the safety net and go back to cleaning full-time and they get to suffer years of utter failure after hiring such a loser until the entire company goes backrupt and they all end up living on the street in a refrigerator box........did that sound a little bitter?

Oh well, moving on......
