Here you go guys :

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisal

because it's derived from plants, unlike the myths that it can't be cleaned with water, it CAN be cleaned with water, imagine rain water hitting the plants, it didn't ruin it, HOWEVER I would still use extreme cautions when cleaning it, don't use harsh chemicals or high pH chemicals on it, and most importantly, NEVER give any guarantee for rugs with this type of fibers because I've cleaned a few and no stains ever come out, I use prochem fine fabric pre spray and clear water rinse, low pressure, low heat.

How would your describe the appearance? I though it looked similar to a wool the way that it was woven...any dead give-a ways?

Sisal rugs that I've seen are brown, loop berber type, the fibers are usually very rough and stiff, the older they are more fibers come loose from the loop and sticks out a little, Eric's facts are more interesting to me which he said that bleach will whiten the fibers but over time the original color will re appear, I never knew that. Thanks for that info Eric.

Sisal reminds me a lot of Jute. Rough, scratchy but wears a whole lot better. Just came back from IICRC Rug class taught by Aaron Groseclose the CEO of Masterblend, so all this is very fresh in my mind. If anyone ever gets a chance to take a class from him it is well worth it.

No, I wouldn't run, as long as you're careful and make sure the customer's expectations are in the same page ( I'm dead serious, you can't give guarantee with this fiber ), I usually tell my customers the only benefits in cleaning this rug is sanitizing purpose only, some say no, don't clean it, some say yes, go ahead and clean it, just make sure your water temperature is not exceeding 180 degrees in the machine gauge and the pressure is no higher than 350 psi.
