how to test a diamond
Do you know one of the DIYS ways to see if that shiny stone IS a diamond??
I do a lot of empty rentals where people leave small jewelry items behind. I sometimes pick them up and pocket them. For those that may recommend the option of returning them; that is usually way past being an option. Besides, there rentals, what kind jewelry would they have? They put their money in BIG tv's.
Anyway, i had an earring that i tested. One way is to heat it up with a flame for 30sec, then drop in cold water.
A fake will shatter. A diamond wont.
So i heated up this shiny rock, after 10sec it caught on fire. Hoho haha. Glad i didnt take it to a family/jeweler, that would have been embarrassing.

Re: how to test a diamond
Interesting. Ever since the ladies starting wearing those jeans with the bling, bling on the pocket you see them all over the place
Re: how to test a diamond
I don't bother, and just suck them up.
Figure if it was of value, it wouldn't be left laying on the floor, but I could have been wrong a couple times.

Diamond testers are cheap to buy.
My best find was a small vase (about 4inches tall) was left in a pile of trash I cleaned up as bonus for a rental....I thought it was nice looking for what it was and tossed it in my van.....as I looked at it closer I seen that it was broke....tossed it into the trash box in my van....when I went to clean out the trash box about a week later there it sat and I took it and tossed it on the shelf in my house.....about a month later my wife asked where it came from and I told her....being in the antique business most my life I researched the name and even though it was broke it brought me $1200 on EBay....It was a Daum Nancy vase from Nancy France made by Daum......this one had value because it was signed and that part wasnt broken.
