Lurkers or non-members
Is there anyway to keep people from viewing the site without being a registered user ? I understand its a public forum but if they aren't registered ( real name , address and email that verifies ) maybe all of the posts could be in Latin or Greek or something like that .
Re: Lurkers or non-members
I'll look into it Larry. I'm still navigating the sit, I just got it up and running yesterday
Re: Lurkers or non-members
I don't see how we could. How would we know if the registration is legit before letting them on the board? We might get a few "James Bonds" from "East Golashes Corner", but they would still gain access.
I think we are just stuck dealing with the occassional trespasser from across the street...luckily, we have a good neighborhood watch program. Maybe even a sick monkey with a wrench.

Require them to fill out detailed information when they signup . Name , email , physical location ,phone #milspec6 wrote:I don't see how we could. I'm not computer savvy but I thought their isp ( or what ever you call it ) would confirm location and make sure it matches the physical address location in their profile , if not the area code would . For their names well that's another story . You could Google it . I understand your point though .
Was just a thought I threw out there .
Re: Lurkers or non-members
It is a good thought and I understand the motive, I am on your side on the issue. Maybe it can be done, I am not the most savvy guy on issues like this.
Re: Lurkers or non-members
I don't think I'm going to go that route Larry. Lurkers are going to be free to lurk and learn as much as they want. Hopefully lurkers will turn into posters in the future.
I'm more worried about spammers and shysters. Guests and members with less than a week registration will not be allowed to post links or emails in their posts. Anybody getting out of hand will be dealt with.
Hopefully the Cleaners Lounge will be like guys hanging out at a real lounge. People (lurkers) can listen to our conversations and if they want to join the conversation they can introduce themselves and jump right in. If they're rude and just butt in we can look at them weird and tell them to keep moving.
PS. You've been posting and contributing like crazy since the new board started so anybody messes with will be deal swiftly:D

Re: Lurkers or non-members
I find that both in business and in life that the more you give, the more you get back. It may not seem like it would be, but every time that I helped someone local, I gained twice in return.
I have rambled on for the last few months on this board and probably sound like an idiot to many, but I offer what I can. In return, I have learned more the last few months than I learned the last few years running the show on my own.
There is an age-old advice to never be the smartest guy in your business. If you are the smartest, you failed to hire properly. This board is full of people far smarter than myself (I prove it often in these postings) and to avoid utillizing that resource by lurking is just a poor way to run a business.
Step away from the pool table and pull up a chair gang, you will prosper from it and so will the rest of us.

Rob is absolutely right, unfortunately there are also members that contribute that think they know absolutely everything and do not think outside of their own circumstances, thank God and Mo for the "foes" list
