Life really is funny
After being bummed out over getting hammered in the bank account last week, I get the call to clean for Warren. Today, another great phone call happens.
It started with a voicemail from my ex-wife's divorce attorney asking me to call him back. It has been over 20 years and I had no interest in calling this guy back. Then he called 3 more times during the day asking for a call-back...again, no thanks.
Finally, he calls again from his personal cell and I took the call unaware that it was him. The reason for the call? He needs his house cleaned in order to put it on the market. Wait, it gets better. The reason for selling the house...he is getting divorced.
Oh, it keeps getting better. He tells me the footage and asks for an estimate...I give him my quote. He freaks out and asks me "How can you change a person $150 per hour for basically nothing?" After a short pause, I told him "Now you know how I felt 20 years ago."
He sort of chuckled and asked me what the real estimate was....I told him that was the estimate.
I clean it this weekend.

Rob has been married 5 times. I thought I had the record.
Re: Life really is funny
I cleaned for a local attorney, his wife was having "Tea Time" with another attorney's wife and talked down to me as if I was "just hired help" she kept saying in front of her friend clean this and clean that! brushing me away with the four finger wave....she was enjoying herself....talking down to me as if to say I was just the cleaner dude!...when she got my bill she then realized her husband was in the wrong career! I was there four hours and cleared $850. that was half my day....the whole day had a typical $1200 ring to it. I had less overhead...less stress and was able to sleep well at night.

Oh Gawd no....once was enough!
I can't even tolerate an aloe plant sharing the house...it will probably take half my stuff now too.

You should do pre-nup with the aloe vera

Re: Life really is funny
oh gawd, I hate cleaning the homes of rich people when the spoiled kids are home... my least favorite situation.
I had one that was a urine job and the son was home, he was acting like a little prick... house was nasty with urine so I went ahead and grabbed a mask from the truck and finished the job wearing it. I also made sure to keep saying "gross" as I pre sprayed
whats really funny is when you clean for people that "think" or consider themselves rich, when actually they live in an upscale cookie cutter house... hate to break it to you Mrs. Jones but rich people dont have neighbors within 50ft of their house lol, let alone a neighbors house 20ft from your front door.. we clean a few homes that are over 4-5million and they tend to be the most down to earth people... and the property is usually over 2-3acres inside the city!

I think I would have masked up, put on a full bio-suit, and walked around their front yard a few times. A little embarrassment in front of the neighbors might create some humility in the jerk.
So true about those who want to be rich, but really aren't. You can spot the difference when you run through a city at night. The true wealthy have drapes, every light is on, and each room well furnished. The others have blinds, a single room is lit, and furnished like a college student because they can't afford anything after the loan payment.
I prefer to live in my 1860 railroad built house as a mostly broke middle-class guy....with lots of toys in the garage.
