Need New Pump.......and ADVICE!
This question is for anyone with knowledge of different pump brands, but I am really curious to hear what Eddie has to say since I'm sure he's worked on many different brands.
So I've been milking the life out of my dieing pump for a long time, and it now appears to be on it's last leg, so it's decision time! What pump to buy, what best fits my needs while not costing a fortune?
the TM is an Eagle or more commonly known as a Steam Genie, real simple, easy to work on, no fancy electronics type.
Here's what I would like in a pump..............
1) can be used with an electric clutch
2) doesn't cost a fortune
3) 1500 PSI min. with good flow
4) dependable and doesn't chew up packing's/seals
5) reasonably priced parts for servicing (packing's/seals)
6) easy to service
7) doesn't cost a fortune. Did I already mention that?!
I've heard nothing but good things about Cat pumps over the years. Seems the down side is the cost of a Cat. Do I really need to spend that much money for a pump that fits my needs?
I've also heard good things about General pumps, and it's what I'm leaning towards, the Emperor series. Is this a wise choice?
Or what else would be good?

General t991. Built like a tank and only 310 with shipping. The only pumps I ever use. Last forever.

Great, thank you for the quick response, Fuzz!......and the link!!
ALSO, if anyone has a pump they're looking to get rid of please let me know. Doesn't have to be new, just in good working condition. :geek:
Thank you!

Trust me those r the best buy. I have put thousands of worry free hours on them without replacing any seals. They're also super easy to do oil changes on. I did a video a while back. Takes less than a mminute.
Re: Need New Pump.......and ADVICE!
That's a hell of a deal and judging by the recommendations they are reliable too. I paid that much for a used CAT 3CP

Hi Dave
I just got the question. And I'll get you more on the numbers tomorrow but something to think about. How long have you been using that hydro pump has it worked well over the years, you talked about elect. clutch is working properly. Because a new clutch can add $300-350 to price I think that's right for a cat pump. That being said most hypro pumps I've worked on have two plungers, a three plunger does hold press. better and move more water. A pump that I have worked on that worked well and affordable to work on is the Comet pump that's on the Boxxer 421 the only thing I have seen and you should consider is the pressure the will do 1500 psi but how often are you going to operate at that press. I had a o/o used his with a SX12 almost every day and I replaced plunger seals about every six months.
I'll look around the shop see what I have.

Re: Need New Pump.......and ADVICE!
Sounds great Man!.....let me know what you have. As far as the clutch, I don't have a prob buying one if the price is right on the pump.ACE Services wrote:I just remembered I have a cat 340 ht pump but I don't have a clutch I'll do more checking tomorrow.
Also, as to how often I'll want to run high PSI/1500, not very often, maybe every couple months for a day or so. Normally I'll run 350-400 for carpet and 600-1000 for tile, and tile only a couple times a month usually.

Re: Need New Pump.......and ADVICE!
Ok Davey
I do have a 340 Cat pump that I pulled off a white magic unit that was working when I removed it a couple of years ago its been inside put up.It has the pulley assy.with it. from what I can find out it has the same 20mm shaft that the 5cp cat pump has so the elect. clutch assy. for a 5cp should be the same. 340 is a 4gpm 5cp is 5gpm. Now I don't know if it will work for you as it is longer than a 5cp a new 340 list for around $1300 I will sale it for wayy less if interested PM me your number and we'll talk to see if it will work and fit your needs.
Now I did some looking on line and if your unit is an older steam genie then as I said you might look at the comet pump because that is what the new Steam Genies are using so this might be a easier and cheaper conversion for you as I found the Comet LWS-4020s listed at Dultmeier for $296.50 that has a little more GPM than the LWS-3525s that the Boxxer 421 uses from HM these have a 24mm shaft but are about the same measurements as a 5CP cat. So I hope this helps. Either way let us know which pump you go with and how it's working.
Feel free to PM me and I'll call you and we'll talk.
