Another Crappy Weather Post
I'm sitting in a metal box at work where it is 36 degrees and single digits outside. This poor space heater is trying hard, but there is just so much it can do.
Tonight will be -3 and once again I have to worry about the machines and vehicles...especially with all the ice hanging off the power lines. The last thing I need is a power outage for any duration.
All the equipment has been winterized except the van still has a water softener in the back with a ceramic space heater, so I am okay for the most part. What worries me is the diesel gelling up. I have anti-gel in there, but who knows if it will be enough and I am not pouring in kerosene. I will just have to go to bed worried.
Luckily for me, I will be winning the 800 million dollar Powerball tonight, so it shouldn't matter. Oh sure, the odds are better of me finding the Loch Ness monster while fishing in a boat with President Obama, the Swedish Bikini Team, and a pet jack-a-lope, but somebody has to win right?
Besides, I've been struck by lightning twice, so I have slightly better odds than the rest of you. I'll send you a post card from my off-shore drilling rig converted to mansion like "Dr. No".

Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
I lost on all fronts last night.
1. No lotto win
2. Truck gelled up...got down to -12...still -9 at 8 am.
3. Didn't find Nessy and Obama will not take my calls.
I wish they would rename the expo from ICE to WARM....that would help.

It's 45 degrees low today, my wife set the thermostat at 72, I had to sleep in my tank top and short
I've never experienced temperature in the minus, only in the single digit back in the Oregon and it wasn't fun, sorry Rob

A squirrel just fell out of the tree....froze to death.
That can't be a good sign.

Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
Next Powerball drawing will be for over a billion dollars. I guess I can wait to win then.
Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
I'm not big on lottery but at over a billion bucks, I think I'll spend $ 10 - $ 20 on tickets, when is the drawing ? Next weekend ?

It's FEEEEZING over here. Got down into the upper 60's last night. Thinking of adding a blanket. Don't feel sorry for me. I used to live in Kansas. After moving here I had all my heels click proofed.

Just have to pray that when you come over in March it's not like March of 06. Rained non-stop for forty days and forty nights.

Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
I had to cancel the trip in March, man. My relatives have no idea how to budget their money and started bailing out the plan. I was going to be left with a rental house for 12 people alone and a really large bill.
I lost the deposit, but I didn't want to be stuck with a $8,000 rental bill, so I am stuck in the cold this year.

milspec,
Sorry to hear that man. I was looking forward to seeing you. My Feb. trip to Australia and NZ is also off. My brother said he didn't want to go there during the hot time of the year. Postponed to October. I'd send you a little sunshine if I could. It's a clear blue sky with the sun shining today. No jobs so I may take the whole day and do a long ride. They say "Cheer up it could be worse" so I cheered up and sure enough it got worse. I'm sure your relatives will be happy to chip in and reimburse you.

Not even if they won the lottery....all cheap bastards.
I was really looking forward to hitting the beach and strumming out some Jimmy Buffett. I will get back down there at some point on my own.
Australia is one of the very few places that I have never seen, but I have done NZ and have no desire to go back due to the sulphur smell.
Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
Oh come on already....it finally warmed up to freezing the last couple of days and then I see the forecast for this weekend.
High temp of 1 on Sunday with lows in the -14 at night. Yes, that is a number one in that forecast.
I was going to clean a few buildings over night on Sunday, but not any more. Cleaning at -14 is not my idea of fun.
I just hope I can make it to the Spring without really damaging anything this winter. I get a little nervous when it gets sub-zero for days. Nothing likes that kind of cold....not even metal parts.

I don't know how you're going to leave for a few days without worrying about power going out, I hope you have a good friend or family local that can swing by daily to check on things.

Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
dont know how you do it Rob, our winters are pretty moderate and it still gets to me a bit after a few months.
I dont think I could live somewhere that got -14 for part of the year

Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
We have been having cold weather but with sunny days...Its been freezing temps at night with unusually warm average temps for us. I had one night where I put the van in the garage and it was early....I figured I would turn the heat to normal setting later in the evening...I fell asleep and when I woke at 3am I instantly thought OH CRAP! it was 29 outside and 35 in garage and 38 in van.....whewww that was an interesting thing when I realized im standing outside in just my underwear....barefooted and all. Felt like -5 out of a warm bed. It was fun to do what my wife does to me though...she always puts cold feet on me....REVENGE!
So Rob, how are you going to handle the risk of freezing like DP mentions? You have a good friend who can hang out at your bachelor pad?

Re: Another Crappy Weather Post
I will pull everything out that isn't bolted down, RV antifreeze in all water lines-pumps-heater, on-board space heaters, and propane tank heaters staged in each vehicle in the even the power goes out.
I have a new neighbor who is an HVAC contractor and no garage, so he is in the same boat with his van. I paid him to check on the trucks and if the power does go out, to fire up the propane heaters.
That is about all that I can do for them. I have the same concerns for my guitar collection in regards to temperature and drop in humidity if power goes out.
Basically, I will be worried about things while in Vegas...can't avoid that around here.
