I've used these guys for lettering an enclosed trailer.

For me, the cost is really the installation. I don't trust myself to put them on without screwing it up.
I have a family owned shop in my area that will print them up and then install them for free.

That's true, you really only get one shot at putting them on straight, bubble free, and on a properly cleaned surface.
Although it's not rocket science.

Not rocket science, but putting on a 3x2 foot piece of vinyl straight without bubbles by yourself is quite difficult. Extra hands are a must and even then, you get one shot at it.
Smaller decals, fine, but larger ones are treacherous.

You get what you pay for. Quality of the vynal makes a difference. The adhesive that will make it stick. UV protected.
Right now mine is peeling, cracking, splitting after 2.5 years. But I saved a lot compared to the other shops.

Cracking already in less than 3 years?
I feel pretty good now since mine has been on a van that is parked outside year round for the last 6 years....no cracking or pealing at all.

My lettering came in one piece. 3'x8'. I called the local shop first, for lettering. Told them what I wanted and the size. They quoted me 1500 for the lettering and install.
I think the lettering I bought, cost me about 100 bucks. For 1400, I can install it myself. I did, and it looks good.
Were I to have had a shop that was reasonable, I wouldn't have even considered doing it myself.

Wow that is a a lot Freemind. The guy that printed and my viny was very reasonable and has held up very well. The only reason I need to replace one side is because I scarped the side of my van on side the garage. Im such a dumb ass. On the bright side I can still open the side door

I'm pretty sure you can have them print your logo on it, they might charge you extra for it Mo.
James, did you use some water and soap to apply the vinyl to avoid bubbles like the tint shops do when they install window tints ?

No, I used a wide plastic scraper to pull the bubbles out as I applied it. There were just a few bubbles left in the letters when I pulled off the top cover off the vinyl. Those bubbles worked out completely with the scraper.
With smaller ones, I have watched it applied with windex, to be able to position the decal. That actually works well.

The other stores in town are crooks. Quoted $1800. 30-45 days later.... $2400.

Geez Matt, I didn't know the Mafia operated in Yakima, but it sure looks that way.
I think I paid $650 for (2) 4x2 signage and some smaller ones for the rear doors.

Re: This is pretty cheap decals !
Yeah, that's around what they want in here too $ 2000+
That's why I think $ 150 is dirt cheap
But my biggest concern is still theft, my buddy's truck was broken into and the guy used a screw driver to poke the ignition and then before he can start the van, my buddy was up and ran outside, he got away, left him with $ 1500 damages, still cheaper than if he were to get away with the van and truck mount and all of his equipments
I shudder just thinking about that again, probably won't do that decals now, lol.

Do a little research. Watch YouTube vids.
3M, Arlon are some of the good vinyl. 5-7 year durability.
Some have UV protection.
You can do clear protector film over it all.
Bubbles? The technology today allows you to smooth them out simi -easily. If you know how.
Indents or panel grooves in a side wall. Do it wrong and it comes undone. And what you may think is a proper way of pushing it down into the grove/slot and making it stick and stay... Isn't.

If only LAPD building is not huge, I would offer them a once a year cleaning in exchange to put that "LAPD cleaners" under all the logo and phone numbers
