No timing at all

No timing at all
As you all know, I have been trying to get myself to quit my job at the power plant to clean full-time. Each time that I have convinced myself to do it, something would come up to trigger a delay. The latest one being a couple of kidney stones that they had to go in and break up last week.......didn't enjoy that one bit.
So, last night, I decided to just "rip the bandage off" and submitted my resignation. The deed was done, signed and accepted with a final day being the 28th.
Then I wake up today to hear that the CEO has recommended to close the power plant! Over 700 employees will now be unemployed at some point without any warning. The place is going crazy with emotions all over the place being displayed from shock to anger.
They will still have to hold a final vote in June (word is that it will be accepted) and then the shut-down process will begin. In my case, I probably just missed out on a 4-6 months severance package (if it goes like other plants).
Nobody knows anything right now and HR hasn't been able to answer any questions yet, so who knows? Knowing my luck, I just timed this move about as bad it gets. At least I was right about there being no future for that job and was the reason that I started to ramp up in the first place.
Strange day.....just strange/

Re: No timing at all
The decision was perfect timing but not so good for the severance pay. Can you rescind your resignation
How the heck can they close a power plant? Who's going to supply the power now

Re: No timing at all
I have seen resignations getting withdrawn in the past and I think that I still can until I sign the papers with HR, but I am not certain.
The actual shut down will not be until later in the year, so I would have to stick around for awhile longer to get it. I don't want to, but if they were to offer an early retirement or extended benefits......maybe.

Re: No timing at all
As for the power supply, every company sells to and buys off of one or more grids in the US. That is actually part of the problem since natural gas prices are so low right now that power is cheaper to buy off the grid.
The real scary part is that it is happening across the US right now and at some point those cheap prices are going to go back up and then everyone's electricity bill will skyrocket!!

Re: No timing at all
So, here is what they have told me.
If I withdrew my resignation (if option avail) and stayed through 2016, I could either stay on for the 15 year duration or else accept a separation package that would provide me with a cash out of 6 months pay.....roughly 30 grand.
Tough call right now.....it is like working for the Mob. Even when I finally decided to get out, they change the variables.

Re: No timing at all
I would stay and get the 30 grand, because even if you do the 15 years thing, no guarantee that they will not close down one day, especially with solar getting more popular.

Re: No timing at all
I don't have all the details yet on the package. It might be only for those that are being forced out due to low seniority. If that is the case, the deal will not be offered to me.
I could stay for another 12 years to reach retirement, but it would be tough to do without hanging myself...the job sucks these days which is why I have been building this cleaning business in the first place.
If I was eligible to voluntarily resign under the buy out at the end of the year, then I might try and stick it out with a re-launch set up for 2017 with the 30k walking cash.
Just don't know all the details yet.

Re: No timing at all
solar at this point is more an environmentally friendly thing rather than inexpensive energy.
If you put solar on your house the up front cost takes a while to pay back, and by that time the batteries usually need to be replaced which is expensive.
