Got gassed tonight
Nope not the good kind of getting gassed, I got sprayed with mosquito killer by the City.
I was just out running through my town and really enjoying it for a change. The temperature was a nice 70 degrees, low humidity, a light breeze, clear night, and fireworks blasting off everywhere. It felt good and I decided to add a couple of miles as a result.
Well, all was turning into a nice night then the City tanker truck turned onto the street that I was on and let go of a huge fog of mosquito killer. You would have guessed it was a forest fire if you didn't know better. They were going around fogging the entire town tonight and thought that everyone would be indoors since it was after 10 pm....WRONG!
I had to run for another 1/2 mile before I could find clean air. My eyes are irritated, nose running, clothes smell, and my throat is already a little raw. The shower helped, but I suspect that I am not going to feel well for a couple of days.
Needless to say, I will need to be restrained tomorrow morning when I visit the town hall.

Re: Got gassed tonight
Are they not supposed to post PUBLIC notices of this?

Re: Got gassed tonight
I just spoke to the city. They told me that they posted that they were going to spray by placing notices on the post office, city offices, and the local gas station. Apparently, it is my fault for not seeing these notices.....which were posted just 1 day earlier!!
The guy who did the spraying said that he didn't see me. It was about 10 pm and I was wearing a reflective vest with an LED flasher front and back. I guess that wasn't good enough?
We argued for awhile and they finally suggested that I run on the school's track for safety instead doing something so stupid as running on the roads at night. Of course this came from a room full idiots that weighed at least 300 lbs apiece.
Not much was accomplished....even the apology was half-assed. There was no justice there, but at least I feel okay this morning. I think I will try voodoo dolls instead.

Re: Got gassed tonight
I would show up at the next public meeting, and raise hell about it. This should be announced a week in advance. Not a day.
Malathon and permathine are usually what is contained in mosquito spray. Malathon is VERY bad for people, not just bugs.

Re: Got gassed tonight
I plan to be very outspoken on this issue. I wasn't the only one out of the house last night. Kids were in the yards shooting off fireworks.
Re: Got gassed tonight
Yeah, 1 day ? Wow, if that happens in California, you would've been rich, there would be 10 lawyers waiting for you outside the city building, lol.
Btw fireworks is legal everywhere in Nebraska ?
It's funny in here, it's illegal in Pasadena and a couple of small cities around but most other cities are legal.

Fireworks are legal in Nebraska, but city ordinances state only within 24 hours prior to and after the 4th of July. They just don't enforce that ordinance ever.
The one day notice is not a surprise. Several years ago the town had a water main break and they posted signs at the same locations to not drink the water as it may have been contaminated with sewage water.
I didn't frequent any of those places where the notices were placed and drank about a gallon of water prior to the discovery. Ended up with the trots for a week.
Fun times living in small towns.

Re: Got gassed tonight
I would raise a big stink about it. Let the news outlets hear about it. They can't just hap-hazzardly go about spraying. They should go to great lengths to do it safely. Its about the publics safety

I remember then spraying neighborhoods in LA a long time ago. I thing they were trying to get rid of the fruit fly.
Rob do you think you should see doctor?
Re: Got gassed tonight
I seem no worse for wear. I have probably been breathing worse cleaning carpets over the years. Outside of being angry about it, it didn't appear to cause any issues.....I don't think any mosquito will like me either.
It was more of the act then the result that pissed me off. It is right up there with what happens in the winter when you just finish shoveling the snow off your driveway only to have the city snow plow push it closed again.
My quest is to get a better notice system in place than to leave a note at the gas station and post office the day before. There are other options....like placing notices in the mail a week prior or even posting them on every house door. The village only has 1,100 people.
