There goes my insurance

There goes my insurance
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska just notified me that my medical coverage was being dropped Jan 1, 2017. I am not even enrolled in any of the Obama care plans, but the net losses triggered by that government mandate has caused them to reduce the number of plans that they will offer going forward.
I was on what was known as the "Silver" plan which was pretty good coverage at a slightly higher deductible ($2700 annual) than the "Gold" plan ($1500) which cost almost twice the amount of my premiums. So, just like that, I now have to enroll in the Gold plan at $750 monthly or be without insurance.
Hey, thanks again politicians for throwing me under the bus! I really wasn't sure if I was going to vote this time around since I detest Clinton and not impressed by Trump either, but it just got personal. It will now be a personal quest to see every sucker that voted for this crap is without a job at their next election term.
I guess I have a couple of months to get cancer......

Re: There goes my insurance
At almost a grand a month, I would change the type of insurance I had.
I would get a plan that covers catastrophic events and save my money. I'd pay for all my minor expenses myself.
Are you spending almost 12k a year now in visits, xrays, etc.?

Re: There goes my insurance
The cost to deliver health care in the US is outrages. We are being gouged by the insurance, medical, and pharmaceutical industries.
Obama care did nothing to control the costs and prevent this gauging. The only thing it did was prevent the insurance companies from denying you coverage and setting coverage limits. Which doesn't mean jack if they're going to charge you 1000.mt for premiums

Re: There goes my insurance
I agree Freemind, I rarely see value in the cost of insurance premiums. The only problem is that I did have a severe fracture of my neck 15 years ago which left me paralyzed on my left side. That surgery cost over $150,000 before it was all done.....it cost my a $1500 deductible.
There is no way that I am going to pay a mortgage payment for insurance coverage though. Just don't make that kind of money.

Obama care did several things for me....
It raised premiums, lowered coverage, raised Out of Pockets, and reduced my choices of providers.
It is true though. The problem never was insurance companies. It was the stupid amount of money they charge for everything. A doctor's office visit is $150.00 and I have never spent more than 10 minutes with the doctor.

Events like that don't happen to us everyday though.
If you can get a cheaper policy that covers a catastrophic event, cheaper, I'd save the extra in a savings account.

Re: There goes my insurance
Have you checked your state's healthcare marketplace ? Even though the enrollment period is over, you can still enroll if your insurance company dropped you.
I have to agree though, Obamacare does affect insurance premiums, if you make more $$, you pay more in premiums, if you make less $$, you pay less in premiums.
And I definitely agree that both option sucks, Clinton can't be trusted and liars, Trump's plans sound really good but it's impossible to achieve and they won't balance the budget, so essentially that makes him a liar too.

I haven't looked around yet for options. It still pisses me off too much right now.
Re: There goes my insurance
I feel your pain and I applaud you for not doing anything yet, we're not thinking in rational way when we're pissed off, just wait a few days and check around, you might be able to find something cheapER
