I got a call yesterday from a lady trying to maintain her carpet's warranty, she asked me to bring my iicrc certification card when we go clean her carpets, I told her I'm going to look for my membership card, I couldn't find it and called iicrc and apparently my membership expired almost 2 years ago, asked if I can renew it, she said yes, $ 144 including all fees, I know some of you guys here are really against iicrc and I kinda am too in some way, but this job that I'm going to do next week will pay for that and then some ( she guesstimate the square footage at 800 - 900 sq ft, apparently it's been a while since I was asked to do warranty work.

That is why I maintain mine certifications. They are a business expense as well, so why not?

This is only the 3rd or 4th time I was asked to do warranty work in the last 10 years, but I feel it's worth investing in IICRC, I will however change my mind on that as soon as the time to get 2 continuing credit arrived, I absolutely hate those classes, actually it depends on who the teacher is, some teachers are boring and some are pretty cool.
I wonder how much are the class now ? Last time I went was already $ 199 for a 2 days class.

I still take a class each year up in Edina, MN towards the end of the year. They aren't really exciting, but it is a nice little 3-day getaway and I always learn something from the other cleaners in the room.

They are about $175 per day of instruction these days, plus the extra cost if you stay for the exam.

It would be nice to see them closer, but the only ones that the locals put on are carpet cleaning and odor control. I keep trying to get to the carpet repair and installation class, but they never show up anywhere around here.

I should look to see what is in Edina this year.

Or you should just fly to LA for 3 - 4 days during winter and attend carpet repair class here, it's 80 degrees here today.
You might get bored seeing Hillary - Kaine bumper stickers / lawn signs, lol.

tell her iicrc is just a private organization for profit not a governing body over the industry.

Ive done more than a few warranty calls and mohawk never asked or cared about iicrc

Tell her whether you have it or not the carpet will be cleaned the same way, and also let her know that pretty much nobody ever gets any benefit from a carpet warranty.

If you read these warranties youll realize they are pretty much voided from walking on the carpet

I agree that the warranty is meaningless and so the cert isn't a big deal....especially when most that hold it still violate it daily.

That being said, if you have a customer that believes it is important then I think it should be important to the cleaner as well. I don't want to put myself in the position where I have to explain why I don't have a certification that she believes is necessary.

It is just like your mechanic. Not all are ASE certified, but to a lot of customers, that is a must have. I passed the exam for certification years ago so it is not that tough. You don't even have to know all that much, just understand how a motor works and you will pass.

I still think it is important to have the certification these days.....if only for those few customers that believe in it.

I got the card last Saturday which is super fast, and she called me earlier today insisting that it has to be a piece of paper instead of a card, I told her that a card is all they sent me, if you want a piece of paper then I don't have one and I'd be more than happy to cancel your appointment for you, she asked to see it, I texted a picture of it and she called me back and asked me to make a photocopy of it to be given to her tomorrow.

It got a little annoying when someone is doubting you like that but I understand though, they pay pretty pennies for those carpets and the warranty does say it has to be cleaned once a year by certified firm, so even though I agreed with both of you guys, I also put myself in their shoes in trying their best to make sure their warranty is not void, even though there are tons of other loopholes that these manufacturer's damn lawyers put together to cover their a$$e$.

Just photocopy the card then it will be  a piece of paper of a card.

You think shes a pain the ass now imagine how she will be during and after you clean the carpet.

Funny thing is that when they confirmed mine was still valid, despite never receiving my new card, they just sent the piece of paper.

Someone will probably ask me for the card.

If you see a copy of the iicrc standard for carpet cleaning on the coffee table, back out slowly and drive away fast.

Lol, I just did the job, she is sooo weird, very OCD lady, unfortunately Danny nicked her ikea dresser leg in front of her and he got yelled at big time, ha..ha..ha....
I would say that's a very well deserved yelling, just perfect timing, it happened at her house and it happened right in front of her, but I applauded his attitude towards that incident, I also took 10 % off her bill and that made her very happy, all in all it was a decent transaction.
Oh it turned out it wasn't even a stain master carpet, just a shaw 5th generation nylon and do you guys know that they require cleaning once every 18 months and not 12 months, I didn't know that !!

Shaw has always been 18 months I believe. They still "suggest" annual, but warranty allows a longer duration as a minimum.
