I have had it with booties
I make it a point to always were the blue booties when walking over cleaned carpet. It just makes sense and provides a good image to the customer, but I go through a ton of them...often 2-4 pairs per job as they just fray and tear away on the soles.
I wear two pairs and put them on right after I apply the prespray. By the time I have wanded out a couple of rooms, they are already shredding on the soles. So, I often replace them on each level of the house....that is 4 pairs on a single job. Even worse is if I have to return to the van for something, that cement will destroy them in seconds.
It just seems like such a waste. I used to leave a pair with the customer so that they could avoid tracking anything on the damp carpet, but it has become too wasteful losing 5 pairs per job.
I am seriously thinking about wearing rubber over-shoes instead. I could just slip them on over my shoes, they are water proof, and they can be washed / reused all year. Another option might be haz-mat booties, but they cost more and are tougher to put on / off.
The only concern I have is maybe the rubber leaving marks on damp carpet or after chemical exposures? I think it is worth testing it out, at $20 they would be worlds cheaper over a year than what I am doing now.
Anyone have a better idea? I don't want to order any more of these tear away booties.

Re: I have had it with booties
I exclusively use shoe covers from here:
http://www.shubee.com/
Those blue booties are crap. The ones from shubee are big enough for easy on/off of my big feet, and they are thicker than those cheap blue ones. Yes, they cost more, but I've used a single pair on several jobs.
And you can get whatever color you like, as a bonus.
A box lasts me a year pretty easy. But I don't give any away. Were I to do that, I'd give away the cheap blue booties.
But if you are inclined to go the rubber slip over route, I'm sure that will work too. Just have to watch black marks on tile and wood floors.

Re: I have had it with booties
I stopped wearing them while cleaning. I figured the carpet is going to be cleaned after I pre spray anyways. Now walking on cleaned carpet is a different story
Re: I have had it with booties
But then you would have to wear gloves. Learn to do this and you would really impress the customer and show that you care
Re: I have had it with booties
I used the white ones, a pair last almost a month ( no joke ! )
But I don't walk on concrete with them though, when I get off the carpets I take them off, I also don't wear them on pre sprayed carpets, I only wear them if I have to walk on the cleaned carpet.
Those blue ones are really bad, the chemicals eat them up, that's why you went through so much of them.
I even had a customer buying a bag of my white ones cause they can't find them anywhere, I bought them for $ 13 / bag and sold them for $ 20 / bag, cash on the side ! Lol.

Re: I have had it with booties
I suspect that is the problem as well...the chemicals. I would have to hire a tech for the high wire act, so I guess I am stuck with footwear changes.
