I heard a little belt squeel last night after running errands. I couldn't isolate it and decided to just take it back to the shop. He called me a little while ago and told me that the tensioner is bad, the belt needs replaced, and the crank pulley is bent. This is the same shop that installed the new motor last fall. This will also be the 3rd belt since that installation. The first time it was the idler pulley was bad. The second time, a hose leaked coolant and contaminated the belt. Now it is the tensioner and likely the crank pulley???

Correct me if I am wrong here, but who has ever heard of a crank pulley bending except for being damaged in removal? Even worse, it is only available from Butler as it has 3 grooves (GM never made a 3 groove one) so it will be a few days and far more expensive. The one that is on there was replaced last year when the new shaft was installed. Anyone want to place a wager on if the shop will take responsiblity for bending the pulley? Poor baby

Well is is back on the road. New tensioner, crank pulley, belt, and harmonic balancer...on a motor that is 4,000 miles since installation. The tensioner and pulley is off the old motor, this will be my 3rd belt along with the idler pulley from the last repair, and I suspect that the harmonic balancer was to blame for all of it. The problem is that I can't prove it, so I get to eat another $580.

Just more dirt on my grave

Wow, that sucks Bob ! The good thing is it’s fixed and perfect timing since you’ll most likely be able to make that money back in a few hours of work.

That is true Dp, it was paid off on last night's job and will be ahead after today's house. It is just the fact that this was supposed to be reliable again after that motor and it has been back for repair on the same problems 3 times now. Seems like it should have been caught the first time. Such is the nature of auto repair these days.

All those repairs would have killed. I probably just would have put the TM on the back of my Tacoma
