just wondering what everyone is using, do you use the attachments on a standard vac or do you have a different smaller vac for stairs/upholstery?

or does anyone use the turbo head and dust downer?

Go Seahawks BTW cant work too late today!!! biggest game of the year

I have used a 46 dollar POS Bissell bagless.  Keep the handle upright, use the carry handle with one hand, and hold onto the head of the vacuum where it overhangs the stair tread.  Looks ridiculous, but works quite well.  Just start at the TOP of the stairs so anything that is kicked out by the brush roll goes down to the next step you do.  Do the edges with the hose going up (before if you are working from a upper floor down, or after if you are doing a basement)

You could also search out a red Dirt Devil hand vac.  Nice brush roll, and you almost don't need a hose to get the crevices. Great for upholstery too. The downside is they are deafeningly LOUD!

This isn't my video, but it shows what I am getting at for stairs:

I'm with Eric on this one, I just loosen it up with a cyclo polisher and drag my upright across them.

Yes, I look foolish doing it as well, but my little shark burned up after the second job...have to use something.

If you want to save you back u could use these two.
I think getting a specific vac just for stairs would be a bit over kill.

I like to use my carpet wand on most of the stairs and use the vacc hose to get into the edges. On a curved stair I pull out the 40 inch stair tool to get all of the corners.
