Diesel Powered Motors Empty Diesel Powered Motors

Anybody using a diesel powered engine to run their slide-in truck mount?  Only asking because I know Stanley Steemer uses a 3 cylinder Kubota (gas) to run a #56 blower, granted they have it choked down from the 4" inlet and outlet to 2 1/2". Now remember before you condemn this they are single wanding and you can only achieve about 270 cfm's (give or take) thru the wand. They run the motor at lower rpm's but compensate with the larger blower and it makes less noise turning slower but still has the lift desired. Just something to contemplate and they have spent the money to research and develop it.
Diesel powered van, diesel powered Tm and a diesel fired burner. I can feel a project in the works.

I have always liked the idea of going diesel for everything. Every time winter rolls around and I have to leave my van running at idle all day just to keep things from freezing, I start wishing I had my old diesel van back.

Diesel van, diesel burner...check. Just need to work out that diesel TM.

I have a 3 cylinder Kubota diesel with only 650 hrs on it and it would probably last for another 15,000 hrs. Just a proven fact that they last longer if you keep the oil and air filter changed.
A stainless steel frame, waste tank and all diesel powered or if the stainless frame wasn't in the works a heavy duty iron frame with truck bed bushings ( 2" rubber ) to keep it suspended off of the floor and prevent rust.
The next questions is would a coupler or belt drive be better.

I've been eyeballing these elastomer couplings

No need to pull the motor or blower to replace and would have the 1 to 1 ratio that is coveted.

belt....then you can run the motor at the perfect torque curve, yet keep the rpms up for the blower....

Those look like an ideal solution to coupler headaches.

Thanks for the link, Larry!

I really like the look and idea of this coupler, but never seen it before.

I've always used the s flex type coupler from Love Joy/TB Woods. And since I need to buy a new coupler hub/half anyways to install my new Kohler engine, it seems like a good time to switch to this system......I just need to find or figure out what size cross references to the 7S size I'm currently using?  Very Happy

That one lists 25 hp at 3600 rpm for max rating. So I would go a couple of sizes up To be sure.

your temp rating on those of 200 is a little low for you air cooled guys.....

there is some heat blowing back there...

plus your diesel motors do better at LOWER RPMS......

spin that diesel around 1500 RPM, maybe a little lower for the 3cyl....

but the blower wouldnt like it.....you need to get the blowers closer to the 3000 range...

you have to change your mind set when it comes to diesels...they dont run the same way a gaser, or regular 2cyl 20-35 hp motor does....

TORQUE, not RPM, is their big thing
